You had an NSX 15-20 years ago if memory serves me right, and a F-250 Pick-up truck that somebody stole, and now a 4Runner, going downhill..? (2 of those F-250s were stolen at night from my small street in Fort Lauderdale, popular vehicles, jeez..) I don’t need anything complicated like a hybrid NSX myself, but I may give in as the new AMG E-63 Wagons supposedly have gone hybrid getting read of the V8 but gaining oomph from the hybrid/electric drive train. Tempting to explore exotics on my old days.
You have a good memory, Dag. Yes, I sold the NSX about 8 years ago to keep YF afloat. A couple of years later, I sold my F250 and downsized to a 4Runner. The past few years have been pretty lean so I'm sorta stuck with the 4Runner. I'm not willing to pay the ransom on a new car and at this point, I'm not in the position to make payments. Rarely does a day go by that I don't question my career choice!
Yeah, cars are a bit of hobby, I like them, most of them anyways. (Worked at car dealers in my teens and drove cabs to pay for school, I got some milage) I wouldn’t have remembered your girlfriends. Never had Exotic Cars, but a few rare ones, like these: They only made 1060 with the V8: a regular Firebird was sent to California to have the top chopped off and a custom soft top was fitted. Bought one like in the picture brand new for $22,5k in 1992 This one was also rare: 2018 Buick Regal TourX: Built in Germany as an Opel Insignia Wagon, then they slapped on a few Buick badges and shipped it to the US of A, it kind of flopped, not many were sold: I picked it up cheap for $28.5k brand new, drove it for 1.5 year and 6k miles, then sold it to CarMax for $27k cash, cheap transportation. It was quick with a 250 hp turbo I-4.
Yeah, Station Wagons in the US is out of vogue hence the manufacturers try to disguise them as “Cross Overs”, like the white wagon in the above picture: GM raised it a few centimeters and added the awful plastic cladding on the wheel arches and voila, here is a Cross Over and almost an SUV. Some of the US owners of the Buick Regal TourX (Also called a T-Rex by affectionate owners) were purists and tried to lower the vehicle and remove the cladding to make it a pure Opel Wagon again, which looks a lot better than the Americanized Frankenstein.
Absolutely loved the NSX. I've owned three of them. Not fast by today's standards and they had a bit of understeer on the track, but a truly enjoyable driving experience. There's a reason that good examples are fetching 6 figures. I held on to my last NSX for 12 years and reluctantly sold it to fund YF.
