You can blame the US market's "25 year rule" for the skyrocketing Skyline prices. Production of the R34 began in January of 1999, which means that as of January 2024 it was legal to import them into the US. Prices doubled almost overnight. A few enterprising folks had purchased them for "collections" ahead of the 25 year point and made a killing the day they became legal. Midnight purple is an outstanding color, but Millennium Jade is my personal favorite GT-R color.
Bentley, y'know THE greenie company, have made a hybrid. Turbo V8, big power and a little dose of squealing power. However, to kick the EV quest in the Gentleman Sausage area, they have fitted an EV motor between the clutch and prop shaft. Now that's smart thinking. Can just bolt it up like a good'un.
That's similar to how Toyota is hybridizing their current truck lineup. They just sandwiched the electric motor between the interntal combustion engine and the 8-speed transmission, thereby adding minimal complexity.
With the 2nd gen NSX, the electric motor is housed between the engine and transmission bell housing, doubling as a starter motor. I know a dentist in Boca that went thru hell trying to get Acura to fix his problematic car. Eventually, Acura has to buy the vehicle back from him after spending several months in the repair shop. While hybrids may be the best bridge gap to electric, I'm not a fan of anything with too many parts. For this reason, I'm holding on to my 8 year-old 4Runner. It's old-school, analogue and boring as hell... but I can count on it.
