Any chance of America's cup going back to monohulls?

True, but my point was the more "extreme" applications of technology in F1 and other top tiers of motor sports aren't necessarily going to trickle down to production vehicles as they are just too narrowly focused.

Some things do, some don't. Nobody is ever really going to be foiling their cruising boat, but composite hulls, light-weight construction techniques, etc, will get into the mainstream.

Diffusers are aerodynamic devices on the bottom of race cars. Air underneath a car is pressurized/accelerated and as it gets to the back of the vehicle it needs a place to expand and slow down before rejoining the ambient air behind the vehicle. The diffuser does this, thereby reducing drag and create downforce. Of course, if there is no airflow, there is no downforce. A "blown" diffuser uses exhaust gas to generate airflow when the car is slowing down and/or maneuvering at relatively low speeds. How does it do this? By running the engine at full throttle, even when not pressing the gas pedal.

A brilliant idea to create absurd amounts of downforce at all cornering speeds, but a technology that will never show up on road cars.

Super capacitors will not likely show up in road cars either. They are very efficient in the "charge/discharge" cycle, but are next to useless at holding that charge for more than a few moments. In racing, where almost every incident of hard acceleration is precipitated by an equally hard braking event, this works great. In the real world, very few people (apart from my mother ) drive "full brakes!!!" then "full gas!!!" seconds later.

I am far from a sailboater but for the first time in a long while I watched the CUP, I think they were in SanFran? Much more interesting. I think that was the CUP? Cats flipping over? Yes so whatever that was got my attention more than the monohulls. Otherwise its a lot of zig zagging around. (in the ICW, under sail, in front of other boats, ignoring radio calls, then b1ch1ng with hand gesture when they wont give wave and get a fat wake :)

I would never own a cat center console, even though the ride may be better, I like jumping around a bit with a monohull. Feels like cheating in some way to use a cat. And they are ugly.

Regarding F1, finally took it off the DVR schedule, it has improved a bit once they removed the ABS again so a driver actually has to do a bit of work. F1 is all about engineering and team orders. And little from that series gets down to the people level. Sports car racing like SCCA, World Challenge, Daytona 24, Sebring, LeMans, those have mostly production based cars put thru the paces and test endurance. Those races/series are more realistic.

I love the AC series 1992-2007, and I think they where the best development the cup had.
They where hi-tech, fast, and the match racing was full of substance. They where also fun and fast in breezes for a mono-hull, and the technical side of things was very interesting.
    Even the numbers say that.

The new series is all about speed, with the tactical aspect being of second importance.
I hardly watched the last cup minus the final. The 2000 - 2003 and 2007 series I watched from beginning (LV cup included) to end.
