Looking back at the date July 12, 2006, many witnessed the launch of the 169 foot (51.7M) s/y Kokomo. She is a stunning Alloy sloop rig luxury sail yacht that came to life on the said date. The yacht drew on the experience and design as well as the know how from many recent past launches. Many of these included the Salperton, Tiara and even the Squall. Kokomo's fast cruising profile allows her owner to sail her aggressively if wished with the 1165 sqM of sail while keeping the trappings of a big luxury product. However, there is another Kokomo in the pipeline.

This Kokomo in reference, will be the second sloop rig to be the successor to the current 51.7 Meter. Kokomo II-if you will- is likely to retain many of the features of the current sloop. She just happens to be somewhat larger.

Kokomo II will feature a dark blue hull that will incorporate a white bootline. The draught is likely to be black. The hull will be studded with picture windows for the guest cabins and a subtle but noticable gold Alloy pinstripe will adorn the uppermost area of the hull. The superstructure will be white and have the dark saloon windows similar to those of the present Kokomo.

The mast and boom will continue on the white theme colour as on the superstructure. An in-boom furling system will accompany the mainsail while hydraulic/automatic roller furlers will operate the foresheets. On the present Kokomo, there is a mid to foredeck structure that features a receptacle for the vessel's tender.

However, on the new 58.4M Kokomo II they will apparently be none of this featuring. The tender may be stored alternativley in a stern garage or in a flush foreck garage.

Here are some statistics on the Kokomo II:

    LOA : 58.4M or 192.72 feet
    LWL : 51.5M or 169.95 feet
    Beam: 10.9M or 35.97 feet
Draught 4.9M/8.05m or 16.17 keel up, 26.65' down
    Sail Area 1914m2
    Displacement 450 Tonnes
    Ballast 120 Tonnes
    Construction Aluminium
    Main Engine 2 x Caterpillar C18 872hp
    Generators 2 x Caterpillar 105kw

The Kokomo II will be handled by the same designers and architects. That is, the exterior and overall designer is Dubois Naval Architects, the Builder is to be Alloy NZ and the Interior Designer is Redman Whiteley Dixon.

The "Kokomo" that was renamed "Konkordia", she has a new name, "Prana". I believe she is the one built in 2006 (52-meters)
