The Kiwis have offered assistance with their boat building crew and tools which are no longer needed at this stage of the cup. Nice move.
They are planning on more like 8 days in the shed, and as Pascal points out, they will have as much help and they need from many concerned. Terry Huchinson is calling is sportsmanship, I see seamanship at work here too. Very cool to see. I wish them the best. They brought a full set of spare everything with so they can do the work. The hull is doable as they have another boat they can chop apart and get the shipwrights going overtime there. I wonder about the electronics, that will be a full redo and there must be more wires and processors than peanuts in Georgia on these vessels.
Judging from this image captured from their video, I doubt very much they could release anything more, unless they planned on bisecting the leeward helmsman.
They said that the stay prevented the top of the sail from being depowered which was the important part.
Those AC boats are truly hairy machines, exciting to watch when there's enough breeze for them to foil, tedious to watch in light air.
This coming weekend's race schedule: https://www.americascup.com/en/news/964_PRADA-CUP-ROUND-ROBINS-3-AND-4-REVISED-SCHEDULE Mostly non-news.
One legitimate race coming up in a few mins... all or nothing for Luna Rossa. The two 'solo' races will be started and then aborted apparently for the sake of awarding points.
Some friends sent emails earlier this week asking about a square hole? I've been in server hell for a few days. What did I miss?
These delays by the committee are getting a bit silly... the wind is clearly going to shift every few mins, stop trying to set a perfect course, cause it's clearly not going to stabilize today.
If anyone else is following the Vendée Globe, it's going to be a nail-biting finish today. All sorts of times will change due to time allowences given for lending assistance to others. https://www.vendeeglobe.org/en/news/21974/where-to-follow-the-finishes-in-english
Wow, around the world and three, almost four, syndicates headed to the finish. Thanks for the heads up. I have not been following but happy to see Pip Hare still in and coming up the coast towards Cabo Verde as she did this campaign from outfitting to funding basically on her own. This is really just flat out sailing on the water and quite an accomplishment to say the very least. Cheers!
My goodness, thanks to VendeGlobe for live streaming on YouTube, brilliant coverage and great line honors for Charlie Dalin. Sadly, Boris is reported to have hit a fishing vessel some 100nm from the finish line and is now clocking at 5.4 kts VMG. So sad. Looks like another boat will take the win on corrected time that was allowed when he spent 10 hours assisting another vessel along the way.
