Photo one is a media boat by the look of it. Just look at the camera on it.

This is why the America’s cup will loose its appeal as the top sailing sport. If there not careful the Volvo Ocean Race will take over... I for one don't mind, because the V70 are always talking about sailing, the technology going into it (which can be used in real life), the close quarter racing in the harbor races, respecting the other sailors, I love that. I hate B/S stories about - deed of gift, locations, to windy and seas to high…. Oh let’s go back to court!

They need to bring in a board of people to run this show, not give it to some rich guys giving no favours to the sport!!!

IMO, I don't count this as an AC race, there will be no proper match racing... just a drag race. Though the boats will look some what amazing going across the water, it's still not a proper AC race. It’s like a Le Man Audi R10 vs Ferrari F10 F1 car…. On a rally course.

    Please ditch these multis!!!

    Hey Far,

The Volvo will never take the place of the A/C because most of the good Volvo action takes place in the middle of nowhere.

The A/C is pure match racing, watching it from shore or the TV is to see the best sailors driving every ounce of power out of their boats. One little mistake or snag will lose a race, with the Volvo you've got 3000 miles to gain that back.

To me the Volvo is the better race, real seamanship involved, though the A/C is like F1 car races. It's all in the build up, the glamour, the stars, the bloody money involved.

The Cup is the pinnacle, the top, the best. How do you beat that?

    Go Saints.

I am not sure what the connection is between the Swiss Flag and the guys that are dressed in Arab Clothing

GrahamF, nice pics! Talk about up close!

FISHTIGUA, I would like to hope your right, but if it keeps going the way it is, then people will loose interest in the whole game. I want to see it get back to it's glory days, where you spend most of the time at work and with friends talking about the boats, tacktics, pre-start - what if's, dial downs and ups, mark traps, overlaps. I really don't think much of that will really happen.

I'm not all just about the leadup, I will watch every lap of the race, including F1.

Another great example of backing my comment up... There's an Australian skippering more than likely the winner's boat... There has been nothing on the news back home regards to him or the cup. Because your average punter wouldn't have a clue why the change, and how it all works. At least they had more of a clue when there were mono's.

Speaking of, I remember starting off in the schools teams racing and sailing against Spithill and his team.... they ended up beating us... ;)

Thanks 84far. I am lucky enough to go out tomorrow on a sailboat. They said that the starting point might be as far as 40 miles offshore. Its is nearly halfway between Valencia and Ibiza Island.
I don't know if you guys have been watching the press events. It was sad not see Larry at the owners Press conference. Looking forward to tomorrows race. I hope that i can get some good shots in before they shoot off.

    Graham,

Don't forget to pack a cheese and pickle buttie and some Factor 30, it maybe a long day. :)

    Far,

As a F1 fan also, I love the build-up too. It's often better than the race itself.

My claim to fame was beating Dennis Connor on a Thursday weekly race at the local Yacht Club. He was helming my friend Sandy's cruiser/racer 'Striker' while we were on a clapped-out old racer called 'Wild Child', 28 foot of repairs stitched together with duck-tape.

And yes, Sandy, as small angry Scotsmen are want to do, did chase me around the carpark threatening to kick the sh*t out of me for some cheeky startline practices.

    Fish

GrahamF, it was said that Alinghi didn't want Russell Coutts there, so Larry said if he's not good enough, then my teams not good enough... So he didn't end up going i guess... If where talking about the same meeting?

FISHTIGUA, HAHAHA! It all happens at the start line. And yes duck-tape always helps.... If only that Bertram 630 had it at the time :D

Hi Far You are right about what was said but if you watch the owners press conference you will see that a guy called Paco denies everything. Paco must be the main Media Guy. Paco said it was a misunderstanding and also said that it would not have been a owners press conference if he was at the table.

To be honest i will be very surprised if there are no court cases after the race.

FISHTIGUA: We are packed and ready to go for tomorrow, so lets hope they have a good race day.

It's the burnt, peeling skin and the soggy sandwiches I'm not looking forward to but the photos should be good. :D

Racing was scheduled to start nearly 2 hours ago (if my time zone calculations are right) but a lack of wind is holding things up. The top mark has been moved, but as yet there's no word on a definite start time.

The supposedly "live" feed on the official site is a letdown: "Channel Cannot Be Viewed From This Webpage". Brilliant work there. Switching to the medium quality feed I get: "Sorry, this video is not available due to a copyright claim." Ah, good stuff there too.

The BMW Oracle Racing site has this though: http://bmworacleracing.com/en/news/...ck.refer=/en/news/overview.html&track.type=sn

Yep, they called it around 7:45 due to lack of stable wind. Apparently some people were getting video on the AC site, but it was only a webcam of the port while they waited for racing to start. It seems to be a regional issue... some people are getting it, others aren't.

Intersting, I got the coverage from about 3:45 to 5am whne the announcers said they were taking a break until something happened. After that it remained on the webcam. No error message, I used the medium quality feed since I didn't want to install a yet another plug in and I m on a 3G connection but quality was very good

I didn't try the espn 360 Or BOT sites since the official site was working.

I just looked at the replay on ESPN 360 and their broadcast lasted an hour as well, ending with the same webcam image... so that had to be what the feed showed.

As to not being able to watch the feed, if you are accessing the web from a country where someone had the broadcast rights, it may be why it's not available. it's not unusual for contents to be blocked regionally, i know it happens with some F1 video.

Hell what a day. It was a long day, no peeling skin or soggy sandwiches but cold as hell and a bit of rain and the worst of all no racing. We dropped lines at 07:30 this morning and Alinghi left port at just after 06:00. We were out there for nearly 10 hours just to get a glimpse of the boats. We stayed out till the last minute and was fortunate enough to see BMW Oracle been towed back. I will post some photos tomorrow of the boats that were out their and the photos i got of BMW Oracle. Hopefully there will be some sailing on Wednesday
