Get a cetrain very well known brand of computer. After 10 hours a day for 6 months on the phone with their tech support in India you'll have a college education. In the mean time just play, explore and understand there really is something besides YF and porn on the internet. ;) I'm older and probably slower than you and I've only been messing with computers since just before I came on YF so there's hope. I din't even have a 12 year old to teach me, but that is highly recommended.

I feel your pain brother! I used DARPAnet for a decade with the Defense Department, long before the World Wide Web. It was easy compared to other programs I worked in, such as AutoCAD, which was... at the time... one of the most advanced (read: difficult!) software programs in the world.

FWIW, AutoCAD is mere child's play compared to vBulletin, which is... IMHO... the most powerful, most comprehensive and equally, the most complicated software available from an Admin perspective. BUT... it's the BEST!

For end users, it's a bit daunting at first, but once you learn it, you're good to go on any number of leading forums. Mostly, I chose it because it was highly customizable and lent itself well to the SEO technology I developed. Something most don't know... I knew nothing about HTML when I started this, but by 2005, the vB development team asked me to become a beta tester of their software. I respectfully declined. Too little time.

Dave, if you or anyone else EVER has a question, please don't hesitate to ask. Lars and Kevin are equally adept and always happy to help. If YF has nothing else, we have the world's best mods.

    Ed,

We have an IT guy at work, and yes, I sit in front of a computer all day, who starts every question I ask him with some rubbish about how many terragiggs I'm running. .

Living in the Islands I'm lucky to get 2.2 meg in the middle of the night; heck we've only got 4 channels of TV to disappoint us.

I still have my Sinclair ZX81 home computer from school with 1K of power and some handwritten Basic homework sitting in its box in the loft( Sinclair was the Uk's first home computer for less that $75).

Computers are just tools(Oh I can see this sentence going horribly wrong) but I missed the middle bit when they became whitegoods.
