2003 Viking Princess 50

    Hi Forum,
    I just completed an in depth look at a 2003 Viking princess 50. Absolutely love all aspects of the boat except the part where I got to the engine room. There is very limited space to maneuver, inspect, or perform routine/basic Maintenance on the D12’s. .I’m interested in hearing if any other owners have recommendations or have implemented access workarounds through the salon floor? Or is this just a known issue that you have to accept and pay for in contortionist labor hours?

    I remember working on a few.

    On one, the A/C raw water pump was center, low forward in the engine room.
    Looking at it looked good, replacing it was a pain. Remove the engine room ladder, lay sideways with your stronger arm working over you head.
    BTW, That AC pump breaker is on a DIN rail hidden behind the normal breaker panel.
    There were other FACTORY breakers hidden behind the normal breaker panel on this DIN rail. Not a clue what they went to. None were labeled.

    Sadly, similar to the Med Muts, poor factory support, schematics or documentation on anything.
    I'm a Viking fan. They tried to be helpful but did fall short.

    Oh, I remember on another; That sliding door from the deck to the saloon; replacing worn and dirty rollers was a nightmare.
    It rolls aweigh behind the helm. I had to cut into the boat to access these shower door rollers. F M

    The good news; These run great, smooth, quiet and impressive.
    My wife and I ran one for a couple of hours. We concluded when we won the lotto, one of these would be on our wish list.
    If it was a big lotto win, we could afford another swab to fix things as needed.

    Well, now you know the rest of the story, We have not won any lotto's,,,, yet.

    I have to ask, Is there custom inlaid wood work in the main saloon deck?

    I had a 1999 50 ft Viking Princess for many years and ultimately it was a great boat. We put 2500 hours and about 25000 miles on the boat. We liked it enough to buy a 68 ft Viking Princess which I am sitting on now at a island.

    My 50 Viking Princess had a hatch in the salon for engine room access. It is quite tight like many 50 ft flybridge boats, but all standard things like oil check, fuel filters etc. were accessible by design. But, I could role the carpet back, pull up some floor panels and have excellent access to the engines for major service work like aftercoolers etc. I had 3208 Cats in mine. So with the removable floor panels engine access was actually quite good, and if you are moderate in size than simple things can be done through the hatch without removing floor panels.

    Of course, now that we moved up to a 68 ft boat with stand up engine room one gets spoiled quick.
