  1. To sum up, Valquest is an extraordinary yacht; truly one of a kind. A custom design by a prize winning architect; built by a world-class Dutch yard with a passion for engineering excellence. She is certain to make a mark for herself and her builder, Nico Van Breemen.

  2. DETAILS

Nestled at the bow are Lewmar CQR 500 pound anchors, hoisted by a Lewmar 8000 hydraulic windlass.
  3. At the stern, her Passerelle, a Hydromar type 2/1 hydraulic, is activated on command. Debark right out to the dock, or make unruly guests take a walk...
  4. Not leaving any space unused, the designer’s plan insets this storage locker at the aft steps for fast access to everyday cleaning supplies.
  5. Set over the Crew Compartment, the Winch Deck shelters a Lewmar hydraulic winch product, nestled unseen, but ever-ready for light or heavy duty.
  6. To maintain the continuity of Valquest's side profile, this swivel step rotates to provide pass-thru access at midship, then returns to the upright position to keep the lines of the superstructure clean. A tidy little engineering piece, both functional and aesthetic.
  7. A pair of leather wrapped carbon wheels await the high side. Valquest's expansive hardtop provides shade for radiation-free cruising with inset windows for quick glances at the rig position.
  8. Setting aside design, lay-out, fit, finish, materials, etc., there is one place onboard that epitomizes Nico’s work; the engine room. Sailboats aren’t known for engine room space, so space utilization and access becomes an art form and Valquest’s engine room was a Picasso. Shown in the background is Valquest’s chiller equipment.
  9. The organization and access, given the allotted space, was a maze of simplicity. And as we all know, there is an artform and science to keeping highly complex systems… simple. At the time of our visit, the crew was doing routine maintenance, topping off fluids.
  10. So well organized is the accessibility of the plumbing in the allotted space, that more time was spent on logistics and schematics than any other part of the boat.
  11. Her 2X watermakers are HEM 25 / 1200 models, routinely producing as much as 4,500 liters – 1,170 gallons of fresh, drinkable water per day, from the sea.
  12. Plumbing, like all of Valquest’s machinery, is made to order, designed to fit perfectly into the ship’s plan.
  13. Only an engineer could wax lovingly about a drive-shaft; however, Valquest’s engineering team has managed to make even that look like the essential, handsome piece of equipment shown here. Aft of the shaft, a Jastram type S2 rudder provides deflection and when the going gets tight, Lewmar retractable hydraulic bow & stern thrusters tighten up the turns.

  15. Located in Makkum and taking the entire end of a peninsula, Bloemsma Van Breemen's yard is surrounded by water and a highly skilled labor force. It is one of the nicest facilities we visited during the 2010 HISWA Yacht Valley Tour. As well, so is the yard's founder, Nico VanBreemen.
