BW 350 Outrage thruster wiring

    Well since MM replaced the thruster with a 12v unit, the issue of the 24v bank is moot. I thought about installing a 12 to 12vdc Victron charger but there is virtually no way to run the wiring from the stern where the batteries are located to the bow. BW installed a wire chase but it is completely full

    How was the bow thruster getting charged to begin with? You can run the wires, I'm sure there is a way without an additional wire chase. Under the gunnels, etc......

    Originally the thruster was 24v only charged with a battery charger… but then marine max replaced it with a 12vdc version and didn’t replaced the charger.

    I haven’t found a way to run wires because forward of the aft compartment where the batteries are is the fuel tank under the helm seats. Outboard of that are two fish boxes which are not removable. No way up or
    Down to the gunnels. All sealed. Lousy design

    THERE is always a way to run power from the stern to the bow or access it on a Boston Whaler. The people you are using simply don't know how to look and how to route things. You get to the gunnels from the stern on that boat and over. The speaker wiring is all run outbound of the stringers. If you wanted to island engineer it you could tap onto the windlass wiring and put a Orion XS 12 to 12v DC to DC charger where you can limit amps being charged.

    Doing it myself… I have very limited trust in “people” as evidenced by the switch to a 12v thruster…

    this boat has very limited access to anything

    i didn’t think about using the windlass wiring as a power source for a DC-DC charger. Good idea. Thanks!

    Wait a minute; There is a 12V windlass up there??
    Why was this not on our list of assets to begin with?

    Just help me get up on a good page;
    Where is the 24v charger?
    Where is the 12V charger?
    Now that we know a 12v windlass is up there, where does it get it's 12v from?

    Don't throw the 24V charger aweigh. I'm using a 40 year old Raritan 24v charger/converter for a bench power supply.
    My back aches every time I think of picking it up off the floor.

    The 24Vdc charger is under the floor near the thruster batteries. No longer working since Marine Max changed to a 12v motor and rewired the batteries. I already ordered a 12V ProMariner to replace it

    windlass gets power from the house / center engine bank (two batteries) which is charged by a 12v charger which also charges the port and starboard start batteries.

    now I have another mystery to look into. There are two remote parallel switches to parallel either port and house/center or stbd and house center. For some reason, both parallel switches click back on after like 10 seconds of being turned off.

    I m really not impressed by the electrical system on this boat. For instance yesterday one of the Raymarine Axiom MFD froze up. I couldn’t find any individual CB to reset it and had to use the main breaker that powers all the electronics. Zero redundancy.

    and they used breakers where you have to use a very thin screwdriver to turn off. Lousy design
