Well, Pascal, the spanish even managed to design a navy submarine that would not surface (too heavy to float) because someone messed up a comma...
So let´s not waste our time discussing that minor difference of building 3 times longer than initially mentioned... :D

I would suggest starting at 45 inches.

Good suggestion. With that size he might also get away with somewhat lower hull thickness. ;)

Hope you're ready to cover his yacht when it's finished. He's a genius so it will be worth headlines. Maybe he'll give you a projected date.

You are an evil wicked man....

Think I'll build a boat tomorrow. Maybe out of sand.

    Ships built of sand

There where a lot of ships, boats and even yachts built of sand. With a little addition of cement of course. Building vessels out of concrete was very common, when steel was a critical resource and it was a very cheap method of building ships.

The material is called Ferrocement. Quite a few home built yachts (sailing and power) where launched, using this building technique.

And there are even more uses:

Rogers Group, Inc. | Crushed Stone | Sand & Gravel | Asphalt Paving | Road Construction > Industry Resources > Rockology 101: Learning > Sand, It's Not Just For Beaches

P.S.- Addition of cement is cheating. :D

You guys chased the GENIUS away!
We could have found out a lot more about P_Bear by now, for example, is he a 15 y.o stirring us all up or a wealthy inventor trying to make friends around the web
I once had a client who was a genuine genius in the computer game world and although he was eccentric in many ways and wanted unique inclusions in his home that I had never done before, he was also one of the most modest, generous and polite persons I have met. There was also a great language divide between us as he was Japanese, this made little difference. Within a few meetings he proved to have learnt as much about the engineering required for his home than the engineer we had employed.
As one member said, if you are a genius, it will show quick enough, no need to sprout about it. He still remains one of the best clients I have worked with.
I doubt very much this P_Bear was more than a bored kid.

Between that and suing us all. Not real sure what he thought he could sue us over though.

Perhaps find out the weight of the bare hull for the boat you require and extrapolating from there might be a good cheat method of working this out?

Who has a glass bottom boat? Guessing we'd need a minimum of 3/4" of thickness, so it'll be easy to see the S.S. Genius on the bottom after its maiden voyage
