It appears as Dörries Yachts has signed a new contract for a large 100+-meter superyacht which is purportedly for an American tech billionaire. Everything surrounding the build of this vessel is shrouded in secrecy. The build location has been rented out as the size of the vessel exceeds their current facilities. The yard space is said to be in Bremerhaven. Any more information concerning this vessel can be added to the thread.
I have never even heard of Dörries Yachts until just now! Suprised this American Tech Billionaire didn't go with the typical Lurssen, Oceanco, and Feadship. However, I am always a fan of these super secret yachts I hope this one will look good.
There head office is just a little detached house in a secondary road behind the Luerssen main office in Bremen Vegesack. No yard or any other production facilities or any larger sheds. One more company that believes, one could organize the building of a megayacht with a computer and a telephone at home and outsource the rest. Forget it, just a lot of hot air.
Yeah their modus is to build a yacht by renting a yard for the specified time of the build and once it is completed hand back over the shed/dock. In their mind that was supposed to have reduced cost of operations.
Exactly what I said. No own hardware and no own facilities and no own workforce. They are trying to rent yard facilities in Bremerhaven, which are under the control of a liquidator. Sorry but I am unable to take such setup and operations serious. I personally would not even buy a rubber boat from them. IMO, they are just a bunch of dreamers. The three other yard owners on the Weser River most likely are holding their sides laughing!
This is like shopping for a Rolls but deciding that a custom fabricator can do a better job... So they'll rent a dry dock from say BREDO? What about the workforce? How will they guarantee quality? Where are they even getting the engineers to work on these projects? According to a certain boating website, they currently have 3 yachts in build, 2 in Germany and 1 in Holland.
They may be able to manage a built at a reputable yard but never by renting an empty shed and organize everything including hiring the workforce. No way!
