I currently own a 65' Pacific Mariner and I am interested in a early 2000 Hatteras 75 Motor Yacht. Interested in thoughts on these yachts and particularly anyone that has ever owned one or run one. Most if not all I have looked at have Cat 3412's and hours can range from 2,000-6,000. I have been very pleased with the Cat 3406E's in my PM and wondering if the aftercoolers must be replaced every 6 years as on the 3406E. Assuming it handles seas quite well since it weighs over 110,000 lbs. so assuming it handles much better than my 65 PM which actually handles seas quite well. Do most of these have stabilizers? Most have 4 staterooms but a couple I have found have 5 so curious about any comments on these layouts. One concern is there is not a designated crew area as many boats this size have one aft. I have always run my boat myself but as I get older it would be nice to have room for some crew and this boat may not be suited for this so curious if anyone has been a crew on this boat. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
They're good boats and good sea boats. Built very strong. Good layout. The 3412 CATS are excellent. That being said they can be a bit wet at cruise speed. I used to run one. Generally the crew stays in the bow stateroom.
Ron: I’ve owned a 2002 for three years and have been very happy with the boat. From your perspective, a thorough mechanical survey is mandatory; arguably, more important than the hull survey. The Cats have been flawless, only routine maintenance. We installed a SeaKeeper and are very happy with the results. Operationally, SeaKeeper is used at rest and slow speeds and the Naiad fin system underway. My wife tends towards sea sickness on other boats we’ve owned, haven’t had any issues this time around. Admittedly a belt and suspenders approach but it’s hard to argue with the results. My wife and I are able to comfortably operate the boat under normal circumstances. When the boat is moving a greater distance with many legs, I typically hire a mate or another Capt. to accompany us. Imagine that boat would be a little “close” if used to cruise with full time crew. I ran a 2003 boat with 3412Es. Had almost 6000 hours when sold and ran perfectly. Minor maintenance along the way. Aftercoolers on the 3412s didn’t have issues never ran that model but you cat go wrong with a Hatt. Systems have always been top notch, fiberglass tanks etc. a little heavy therefore a little note fuel burn than others but will squash waves like nothing else
Wondering what is the breakdown number of cockpit vs sport deck boats. According to shipbuildinghistory.com 29 hulls were built. https://www.shipbuildinghistory.com/shipyards/yachtlarge/hatteras.htm Appears Cat C30 was a option starting in 2003
I think they are beautiful boats, well built, and I love Cat engines. My prejudice is showing but I would recommend the boat.
Hi Brett, Can you pass along some info: Which Seakeeper model & where did you have it installed. Thanks Jim
Jim: We installed a SK-16 in lazarette. Removed existing freshwater tank and installed SK between stringers. Built two new water tanks outboard of SK install. Patrick Dupuis with Murray and Associates did the Naval Architecture. TriSea Stabilizers did the install @ Marina Mile Yachting Center. Hired a project manager to ride herd over the whole process Overall was satisfied with purchase and installation; ecstatic with the SK. If you want to discuss details, pm your contact information and I’ll give you a ring.
Brett, thanks for the info. When I get closer, will give you a PM. Is your boat a cockpit or sport deck version?
Ron Here's a chart of Hatteras 75 "sold" prices. Latest, I think was "Sea Foam" listed @ 1.295M sold 1.150M was on the market 57 days. 2002 Sport Deck - 5 stateroom - cherry int - hardtop Amazing to me & the broker who gave me the info, boat had 8400hrs!
