Next question, Did either of the surveyors measure the diameter (or radius) of the wheels? Any comments of the Wheels? Pictures of the wheels? Who hired them, you or the sales broker??
Don't know anything useful, but I'm interested to see what you learn because our most recent WOT test showed some similar results, starboard engine carrying more load than port. Our props were both re-habbed at the same time, although that was at the start of the 2022 season and something may have changed since then. For the sake of completeness, I notice you didn't include load numbers for the slow cruise test... -Chris
So looking at an over-prop situation on the stbd, When we haul in November I would have the props done anyway. Doesn't sound like I need to worry too much about it.
Yes, they did measure the wheels and checked everything for true. No comments other than noting that the stbd was just redone. My buyers broker hired them. Engine surveyor said he would check the props and the boost sensor. Nothing that needs immediate attention.
They are calling 2000 slow cruise. Here are the cool down numbers after the trial run. Nothing of substance other than fuel flow. I didn't mean over propped, just more prop than the other wheel. It is amazing two props at the same pitch, with 1/4" differences in diameter can run so different. It is amazing two props at the same pitch, with a light cup difference can run so different. Remember, cup is hand tapped into your props, two different guys, two different days, months,,,, will make a difference in the matching of prop cups or final edge finish. Every time I whack a wheel, they both go to the shop.
Nothing to loose sleep over short term, It would bug me for a long amount of time. Both engines run more efficient when pulling the same load.
So asking was 319k. Offer was 300k and accepted. Post survey we asked for a 5k reduction. Naturally listing broker disagreed with just about everything on the squawk list and won't give a dime. Here is the list. I thought 5k was pretty generous. He was able to get a tech on the nav electronics. They replaced the network hub, a few cables and the AP control head. They also got the upper and lower JL Audio sound systems working. Bilge blowers were marked as inop by the hull survey. Broker says they are working, just weak. Master toilet is inop and he can not find anyone to get to it any time soon. I think the shaft between the flush pedal and the ball valve is broken. I can fix it if I can get parts locally (Ft Lauderdale). Would y9ou guys accept this list as is. I'm inclined to accept as long as I can close the sea cocks. Your notes above show a boat that has not not been keep up in bristol fashion. Sadly, this is the normal of most boats out there. Old hoses are the norm and probably another reason to sell. So, What are the comparables selling for? What condition are they in? Naw, not even I exercise the my sea-cocks regularly, I do know they are greased up well and will close when needed. Last service; November 2022. But my clamps are indeed 10-8. I'm always about checking the bilges. 45 year old boat, I'm there. Just replaced all the hose clamps on my mains. Some were recent, the oldest maybe 3-4 years old. Master head issues? The owners did not fix that before?? Come on... With all that, $5k is not much to ask since the boat was obviously in need of these services before the listing. The stb high boost issue may go away when the props are matched. If not, some penetrate oil may help before a real service is needed. It is an external gizmo and some lube and hand exercising may help some more.
Sold comps are in the low to mid 300's. Most appear to have original Raymarine electronics. Hard to tell the condition, but I've looked at enough boats to know the perfect boat doesn't exist. Broker is willing to fix the head. Problem is that everyone is a month or more out. I don't really want to wait a month on something I can fix in an hour for a couple hundred bucks. I think we are going to accept contingent on ability to close sea cocks. Would suck to not be able to clean out a plugged strainer. If I walk away from this one over 5k I could easily spend that on another boat pre-purchase and end up with way more serious issues. My broker has a guy that has spent over $10k on surveys searching for the perfect boat. Does anyone know where a guy could get toilet parts in the Ft Lauderdale area?
Sadly these items are pretty much what you ll find on most boats for sale. Yes the seller should accept an adjustment of $5 to $10k but the next boat will probably have similar issues. since you mention a pedal, I m assuming the boat has vacuflush. Should be an easy fix, there is a well stocked dealer in FTL, can’t remember the name off hand but it will come up in a search
I've looked at worse boats for more money. It is vacuflush. Environmental Marine seems to be the go-to in the area. I was going ask about vacuflush. I've never had a boat with this system. Seems like a lot of moving parts. Seems like fresh water fed macerating toilets are simpler. Opinions?
I have a strong dislike for Vacuflush after having 2 boats with them. I switched to Raritan Elegance and have been very happy to be rid of the vacuflush and all their issues. As you said a lot of moving parts.
My 53 had been converted to VF in the late 90s when I bought it in 2003. I kept the 3 VFs till about 4 years ago. Yea they could be a little temperamental sometimes but pretty much never let me down. Once in a while the vac pump wouldn’t shut down so I would have to turn off the breaker but they would still work Nowadays there are better solutions as electric heads have improved so when the VFs got to the point where they needed full rebuilt I switched to Raritan Elegances. I don’t miss the wondering if the vac pump would shut down
Sea cocks, yes. And I'd guess they'll actually work, with a bit more ooomph! applied. But most of the rest seems to me to be stuff I'd want to baseline... along with other similar hose replacements and so forth... on my own dime so I know it's done, when it was done, and done properly. MarineSan dot com has Vacu-Flush parts (overnight if you need it), good diagrams, and there are some decent YouTube videos from various people on maintenance. I prefer a freshwater electric macerating toilet, but now that we have VFs I can live with it. -Chris
I did the same conversion. Ditched the VF heads and installed two Raritan Elegance units along with their SEA/FRESH water option. By far one of the best upgrades I've done!! Highly recommend this conversion to anyone.
