Are you planning to check alignment? Rough it in while still on the blocks then final check and adjust after being in the water at least 24 hrs. ?
I just did my own alignment check on both shafts they spin nice and easy with two hands on the blocks. I came out Monday I’m going back in tomorrow Friday after lunch. Everything went back together as it came out exactly not planning on having a deal with any alignment issues.
When is your next dentist appointment? I have a feeling a sudden case of teeth grinding becoming an issue.
I don’t want to say that’s an impossibility but that’s pretty much an impossibility. Of course I don’t know what’s acceptable to you. People have different ideas of what comfortable is. A couple of quarters into the Magic Fingers and off you go to sleep, maybe.
Well to each his own. I hope you get lucky. Setting the shaft on a block doesn' t hold it in place. But putting that aside, you just put in new bearings. The shaft will not be in the same place it was with your old, worn bearings. I do hope you get lucky and guess you will find out soon enough. Curious, why did you replace the bearings?
You keep saying it’s the correct route I still don’t understand why it’s either one way or the other the Chefs are fine and I blocked them up Three of them had a little play in them And the rubber was starting to dry rot not sure how old they were at least nine years old my guess

Ok on to the next while I’m out. my engines were running great until two weeks ago temperature was 175 no matter the RPM. Port started going up to 185 when I got to 2200 RPMs last weekend. Now I see why I hate these screens but I have to live with them for now what kind of paint can I put on these to keep them clean any suggestions?
spinning the shafts in your struts doesn't mean it is aligned to the engine/trans correctly. You had sloppy bearings and now tight bearings. The shaft has moved. But, you have convinced yourself all is good. I really do hope your right. But you are cutting corners here.
Bottom paint.....can even use bottom paint in the spray can......first see what drill bit size is just a touch smaller than the holes.....As you'll have to clean some of them out after painting.
OK thanks I just pulled all three of them scrub them up clean them up and use an Allen key to clean the holes I’ve got paint in a spray can I’ll give that a whirl Trilux 33 Interlux I hope that will work
Keep in mind I am a DIY boater self-employed businessman Who relies on the restaurant trade mostly to make a living servicing commercial kitchen fire protection systems, Needless to say my business is cut in half right now . That being said my pockets are never very deep so I tackle all these projects myself so yes I do have to cut corners at times to save money. I did this job completely on my own with no help whatsoever I’m happy with the results . I just came in form a sea Trial. No shimmies no shakes no vibrations smooth as silk...Well just a little as always at 1200 rpm , so I don’t run that rpm. Thank you to PACBlue For the tip on getting the engine test reports from Johnson and Towers for my boat as it told me what size propellers I had from the factory . I was able to find an exact fit at the local prop shop in like new condition for $700 each nibral. Which the yard just installed this morning. Thank you all for your help. The freezer was the trick, and the hammer taps.

I’m taking a month off from working on this I’m taking a month off from working on this SOB!
Most of us on here are DIY'ers and of limited budget. Totally understand your need to prioritize oand decide what you can do. Most of what we were recommending was DIY stuff and pretty easily done. But enough said - glad it worked out for you and you are happy with the results.
All that in this post being said I remember I put drive savers on my last boat not sure if they really work, but they seem to help dampen vibration and they gave me a little bit of fresh meat on those old bronze Shafts in the struts, I think I’m gonna do that to this one so when I undo the couplings to put them in hopefully the shaft doesn’t spring one way or the other to much. my engine mounts are in good shape and still have the factory paint on them and no rust and I have flexibility in them to move up or down but as I said before I’m gonna take a couple of weeks off before touching this boat again! Lol
