Zuccon International 50-meter Explorer for CRN Yachts​

A recurrent element in Studio Zuccon International Project’s design work, the theme of timeless go-anywhere design is back again in the new Teseo project, a 50 metre Expedition yacht designed exclusively for the CRN shipyard. Reinterpreting the stylistic features and content historically associated with Expedition Yachts in a contemporary light, Teseo is a product for long sailing trips in all seas and weather conditions. The product we now call an 'Expedition Yacht' is currently very popular, and a lot of shipyards which have in the past had a very different idea of 'sailing' have decided to invest in this form of typological experimentation for a number of reasons, one of the most important of which is response to the increasingly frequent demands of a market oriented toward reducing consumption and therefore costs in order to enjoy life at sea in the 'healthiest' possible way. Teseo was therefore created at a time of strategic importance for this type of vessel, the features of which not only satisfy our need to be 'Green' but also respond to the increasingly spasmodic use of all the water toys now available on the market. The functional properties and layout of this type of vessel allow the owner to dedicate the entire stern, which is much bigger than the standard for vessels of this size because the volume of the superstructure is shifted much farther forward, to housing two 8 and 5 metre tenders and a water scooter (in the specific case of Teseo).

In stylistic terms, Teseo was created with the intention of reviving stylemes and content historically associated with Expedition Yachts, with a sort of 'Classic Experimentation' giving the vessel a contemporary look, responding to today’s demand for an ideal 'timeless' boat that will sail into the future with style. Another essential theme is definition of a flexible functional characterisation offering a variety of different opportunities for experiencing life on board, dynamic spaces that can be changed to suit the tastes of the people on the boat: specifically, a number of areas on the various different decks are designed to transform and adapt to potential different requirements of customers choosing to interpret the product in a more traditional way, that is, leaving the shore behind and making the most of life at sea, or for people who don’t want to give up all the comforts of a classic displacement vessel while enjoying the formal and volumetric qualities typical of an Expedition Yacht.

The layout is highly customisable: for example, the big space at the stern may be set up as a Beach Club, possibly using the well-established 'Tender Bay' solution housing an extra tender in addition to those on the main deck, or as a big Storage and Diving Area for owners who want to set sail for a lengthy voyage without having to go ashore. There are other potential layouts, for instance with the galley on the lower deck to leave the main deck free for more guest cabins at the prow or more space for the owners’ suite. In this type of boat the main deck is set up to carry various toys and tenders at the stern, but can also be set up as a big cockpit with loose furniture once the tenders have been launched. The living area is designed for use as a big balcony over the sea. Four sliding doors on both sides may be opened or closed as desired without ever losing sight of the sea. The clear gunwale and the teak deck physically entering the living area promote and underline once again this desire to live in harmony with the 'nature' of the sea. In all layouts there is a true Wheelhouse Deck for the captain and crew, completely separate from the guest area to guarantee ideal living conditions even on long voyages.

The vessel offers all the flexibility required in a product designed for sailing and use under different conditions, in which the specific features of the place will determine different ways of using the vessel. In short, Teseo represents the expression of a typological experiment with roots in the vocabularies that have characterised the history of the ship, offering content that can respond to the inevitable passage of time, in the name of a formal and functional contemporaneity that allows it to respond to the 'frantic' demands of a constantly growing and diversifying market.
