Volvo Penta is now launching a new propulsion system for boats – the Volvo Penta IPS (Inboard Performance System).
The new system is proposed to make boats faster, stronger, quieter, cleaner and just as easily maneuverable as a normal passenger car.
In simplified terms, the new system features propellers that are turned in the direction in which the boat is traveling. Volvo Penta has placed pulling and counter-rotating propellers through the bottom of the hull, which provides the boat with significantly improved performance, compared with traditional shaft installations...

CLEAT CHOCKS CATCH THE EYE BUT NOT THE LINE
Stainless-steel cleat chocks from New Found Metals are not only stylish and innovative, but are hand-polished so lines can pass through without danger of chafing. A cleat chock can function as a cleat, a chock or a fairlead.
The chock's horns are offset from the base at a slight angle, to lead the mooring line away from the hull as much as possible. The cleat chock can be mounted inboard or outboard.
Hand-polished cleat chock surfaces, especially the undersides of the horns, ensure uniform smoothness to virtually eliminate friction against secured lines.

One way a boater can run afoul of the gear when docking or undocking is by wrestling with heavy, soiled, shore-power cables - and maybe wrenching his back in the process. CMN are delighted to announce that they have been awarded the contract to build the new BERMIE. The 190' / 58m will be delivered to this repeat client in September 2006. Containing a microprocessor using a patented System-on-Chip technology, the SW1 performs a load test on the battery at every engine start and monitors alternator output and the level of battery charge. Bright, multi-colored LEDs on the monitor's face display the test results. A Master Warning Indicator with light and audible alarm is included for remote mounting at the helm or other location.
