YachtForums: We Know Big Boats!
For many cruisers, a trawler is the ideal yacht. While they don’t always complete visually - for some yachting aficionados - their stability, toughness, and ability to go anywhere makes them very attractive.

NEW SHOREPOWER CABLE INDICATES WHEN POWER IS ON...
Nothing is more frustrating for a cruising boater than to plug in at the dock and have no power. To help pinpoint the source of the problem, Hubbell's new 30-amp shore cable set contains a green, LED "Power-On" indicator at the end, which illuminates when power is present through the end of the cable.
Unlike LEDs on other products, the bright, green LED on Hubbell's cable is easily visible, even in bright sunlight. Thanks to the cable's fully molded design, the indicator and internal electrical connections are completely waterproof and durable. The connector end has a non-metallic, threaded sealing ring, which makes the inlet/connector interface watertight. The ends are ergonomically styled for easy handling and connection/disconnection.
Hubbell pre-wires the cables at the factory with #10 AWG wire, using copper-crimp barrel terminations for a tight connection and long life. The cables are UL-listed for the U.S...

Skylge takes to the water...
Holland Jachtbouw has announced the launch of the 141 ft schooner "Skylge". The carbon mast and sophisticated rigging for this lightweight, high-performance yacht are currently being fitted, after which Skylge will make a shakedown cruise to Spain before heading to the Caribbean. Skylge, which is the Frisian word for the Dutch island of Terschelling, is sure to be a favourite when she joins next year’s regatta circuit.
While being ideal for racing, the yacht has also been optimised for family cruises. Built to MCA, Skylge has an ideal layout for chartering, with an owners’ stateroom, VIP suite, two guest cabins and generous amounts of deck space. Designed by André Hoek, Skylge has slim low-freeboard lines, long overhangs and a modest pilothouse. Her rig follows the trend for high-aspect mainsails and roached foresails, while a lifting keel offers access to shallow waters.

USCG APPROVES VIKING IMMERSION SUITS FOR USE...
Immersion suit model PS2006 manufactured by VIKING Life-Saving Equipment received a certificate of approval from the US Coast Guard (USCG) after meeting stringent safety requirements.
The PS2006 meets the USCG standards, which require immersion suits to cover the entire body and include a hood, gloves and boots. The suit can endure a jump of nearly 15' without shifting or getting damaged, and can be donned within two minutes.
VIKING's PS2006 immersion suit provides a stable floating position so the wearer's head is tilted enough to bring his or her mouth and nose at least 4" above the surface of the water. It can turn the body of an unconscious person in the water to a face-up position within five seconds without any auxiliary means.
The immersion suit provides enough thermal insulation so the wearer's body temperature doesn't fall more than 2° after six hours in 32° to 35.6° water...

Lewmar has just launched the most powerful electric retracting thruster available. The 250VRTTE provides power and performance, typically aiding a 50ft (15m) sailing yacht or fast planing power boat to manoeuvre effortlessly in restricted space. The retracting capability offers a clean fair hull with minimum drag. The VRTT allows deeper immersion and has the flexibility to be fitted further forward than a standard Tunnel Thruster, for a better turning moment, but it still has all the benefits of TT technology.
The powerful 10HP electric motor is a cost effective alternative to the high cost of a hydraulic thruster normally chosen for this size of boat. Improved technology and engineering has enabled reliable electric operation to become a real alternative for higher work loads. Despite this advanced engineering and function, the thrusters are competitively priced. Installation and maintenance is straightforward, and the Electric motor is mounted inside the hull...

No Hydraulics, No Pneumatics... No More & Roll!
Nothing can ruin a beautiful day of boating quicker than seasickness. Now the whole family can enjoy boating more comfortably while anchored, drifting, fishing or moored. Magma’s Rock-N-Roll boat stabilizer significantly reduces the effects of motion on boat and crew.
The patented hydrodynamic design of Magma’s Rock-N-Roll stabilizer relies on shape rather than mass, making it very efficient and easy to handle. The proven hinged-wing stabilizer operates silently without noisy flapper valves or vanes that can keep the boat's occupants awake at night. It actually reduces motion sickness and accidents caused by uncomfortable wind and sea conditions.
As the boat rolls down a wave, the stabilizer's hinged wing folds flat, allowing it to dive without the resistance or buoyancy found in other designs that use frames, cones or bags...

LeClercq Marine's New 82 Arrives In Style
Seattle builder LeClercq Marine has just unveiled their newest yacht, and it's as much a treat for the eye as it is for the performance minded. The design captures the advanced styling of a concept boat but with a lot of functionality built in below deck. Two features stand out above the rest. The roominess of accommodations for owners, guests and crew, plus the ample speed this boat has to whisk its passengers along to extended destinations.
There are four staterooms on the lower deck forward that are accessed from the mid-ships galley. The VIP stateroom is in the bow with its own ensuite head, followed by two guest staterooms that share the day head and flank the center passageway. Further aft is the master stateroom that occupies the full beam of the boat. The two crew staterooms are accessed from the stern cockpit by way of a private stairway. A passageway leads forward to a crew's galley and head, and then to the engine room access...

New ABEKING & RASMUSSEN 147' is waiting for a new owner...
When Abeking & Rasmussen delivered BRAVADO at the end of July 2004, six weeks prior to the signed date, the owner was happy that his new yacht could make it in time for the Olympic Games at Athens. He even could cruise the Baltic for some days before the crew headed south.
Almost parallel to BRAVADO, a near sister ship was taking shape, but built without a customer order. The positive public feed back triggered by the deliveries of ZENOBIA, EXCELLENCE III or KWIKUMAT, moved Abeking & Rasmussen’s boss Herman Schaedla to keep his staff busy, by building another yacht at the same time.
It is not easy setting up an interior which leaves enough room to realize the imaginations of a still unknown owner at a later stage...

SECOND GENERATION LEAR TAKES OFF IN MARINE INDUSTRY
With the same entrepreneurial spirit and reputation for quality that made Learjet a household name, Shanda Lear, daughter of world-renowned inventor Bill Lear, has followed in her father's footsteps and recently launched a new product of her own—in the marine industry.
Together with husband/designer Terry Baylor, Lear brings a new breed of electric boat to the marketplace. The 20-foot vessel, called the Lear 204, is manufactured by Lear Baylor Inc. of Garden Grove, California, and incorporates several unique features—among them a retractable hard top and patent-pending propulsion system.
The Lear 204 made its official debut earlier this year in Newport Beach, California, at the 2005 Boat Show at the Dunes.
Prior to the boat's launch, Lear spent 30 years working in various areas of the non-profit sector, including management, multi-media education, marketing and motivational speaking...
