Oyster Marine introduces the 885 model
For a while now, we have been hearing about Oyster Marine's new 885 model. She is well underway at the RMK shipyard in Turkey and should be ready by 2012. The vessel has been designed by Rob Humphreys and is being optimized either for private or charter use.
"The exciting new Oyster 885 has been designed by Rob Humphreys as the perfect solution for those who would like to share the unmatched pleasure of cruising aboard one of these magnificent Oyster yachts - with the potential to recover some of the investment involved by chartering. Designed to give the maximum length and specification possible without exceeding the MCA 24-metre rule, the Oyster 885 will provide an efficient and cost effective yacht for charter use, whilst detracting nothing from the appeal of private ownership."
On board, the design has been developed to take advantage of the space available...
MMGI shipyard completes 44-meter "H2ome"
The MMGI shipyard completed a yacht that is a bit different from the norm yet refreshing to the eyes. The new yacht is the 44-meter "H2ome" and is now available for charter. According to the builder, the thrill of speed was the motive for creating this unique project. An overall appearance of a sailing yacht (void of mast) with the ability to plane at high speeds were considerations.
H2ome was slated to carry 3 X MTU 2000 M93 series engines but apparently uses 3 X CATs that can push her near 200-tonne frame to just under 40 knots. At 25 knots continuously she has a range of just about 700 nautical miles but her cruising speed is around 18 knots.
Her 8-meter overall beam contains an interesting interior complete with green walls. When I say green walls I mean living walls with plants growing on them...
Sparkman & Stephens introduces 75-meter 3-masted schooner
The design firm of Sparkman & Stephens have introduced a design for a 75-meter long three-masted Bermuda-rigged schooner. In an effort to provide potential owners with a luxury sailing yacht that has the ability to be sailed with all the ease of smaller and less complex yachts, the S&S 75-meter schooner was designed. New and current technology has made handling of even the largest sailing yachts times easier with the need for less deck-hands and so this is the concept for this design.
The design features a flag blue hull, white superstructure and white masts and booms. Computer controlled sails eases the handling with the main in-boom sails furl with ease, unlike the 'man labor intensive' hoisting. On the inside, the design is set to be sumptuous with comfortable living for all.
She carries 5 guest staterooms with the ability to house 10 guests...

Wieringerwerf – The technical sea trials of MY Lucia-M, the first Jongert 3900MY, "went very well", according to a spokesperson for the yard. "Especially the way in which the yacht maneuvers, at all speeds, was remarkable."This yacht weighing over 200 metric tons maneuvers like a runabout."
The sea trials were held on the IJsselmeer (the Old Dutch inner sea) and the North Sea. ‘The combination of propellers, rudders, their mutual positioning and shape of the underwater vessel is ideal for all speeds’, explains a spokesman who held the rudder during the sea trials. ‘Executing a Williamson Turn at a speed of 29 knots is easy. Even at that speed you are always in full control. After a so-called “crash-stop” the yacht stops within three ships lengths and that from a speed of 15 meters per second...
