I was looking at the spec's of the new Sovran 4500 and noticed that it is lighter than the Sovran 4300 and wondered if anyone had thoughts on how or why? Many small improvement or more advanced building technologies? Scott
The why is easy; less weight equals better fuel ecconomy and better speed. As for the how, it's not that hard to get rid of 1750 lbs. Remember these boats are almost the same size (only 1'7" longer and much of that is just swim platform. 14'9" beam on both).
Doubt you'll find it much better or worse. I suspect it will be more a matter of taste although I haven't run them side-by-side.
Was the 4300 an IPS boat or conventional shafts? Just switching from shafts to IPS pods is going to take a lot of weight out of the boat.
4500 sovran The 4000 sovran and the 4300 sovran were the same boat just relabeled in 2007. The overall length of that boat was 45 feet when you included the 3 foot swim platform and the 2 foot bow pulpit. It looks to me that they have simply changed the hardtop/windshield configuration and relabeled it the 4500 but it is the same boat. The 4000, 4300 and 4500 have all been IPS boats. I personally think that Tiara had to make the model name as large as possible for those boat buyers that compare their boats to Sea Rays and the other express boat builders out there based on price and length.
