Guys (and gals), Not planning a YF raft-up at this year's FLIBS. Instead, we're planning some special show coverage for you. There's some logistics involved and I can't go into the details, but I think everyone will enjoy this. There are a number of new debuts at this year's show. I've already been onboard two of them and I've got reviews in the worx. We will also have first coverage of several other boats, including the LSX-92. The Special Feature should go live a few days after the show. If I can upload sooner, I will... but the days following a show are often busy with sea trials. And when you finally get home, the last thing you want to do... is look at a boat.
No raft-up? Your surprise sounds intriguing so am anxiously awaiting the new coverage. But it was nice getting to meet new Forum members at previous shows, and FLIBS is so convenient. Perhaps we can list our display locations so members can stop by for putting a face to name or for a friendly howdy. JW Yachts will be displaying an Oceaneer 55 trawler, Sand Pebble, at B228. Please stop by. Judy
I'm afraid this feature won't be very appealing to you Judy. We're covering the Go-Fast models, as opposed to the Knot-So-Fast models.
Carl, How about we put together a list with members who will be displaying at the show? This way, we can put a faces to a names. We can also schedule a get together at a floating barge. Your thoughts?
Speed definitions according to JWY: Go-Fast: >12 knots Cruise Speed: 8-10 knots Are we there yet? Speed: < 8 knots Feels like astern: < Go-Fast
I will be at the north end of the show, at the Las Olas City Marina section, slips A9 and A10 either on a custom Knight and Carver, MAKARA, or a Molokai Strait, ATLANTIC RANGER. Signs say The Shipyard Group. Stop by for a cold drink, it is great to meet Fourm members.
A well crafted quip, buy the boy a magnum for a fountain of champers (I think I'll stop there) Gone for a cigarette Fish
Didn't Noresman say on another thread we could pop over to his place for a gathering? lol I think there are enough YF shirts out there that if everyone wears theirs, we could spot folks a mile away. It will also help non-YF-wearing members to spot the YF crowd huddled in the beer tent(s). I'll be at the show for four days, sporting the YF shirt with camera in hand one or two days then shirts of the other publications I write for. I roam around so will not be tied to a particular booth. A gathering on Saturday or Sunday afternoons would be good (Thurs and Fri are heavy work days). Any takers for a nip around 2:00 PM?
Hey Tom -- Looking forward to seeing you. The problem with Sat or Sun at 2:00 is that for those of us displaying boats, that tends to be high traffic time (perpetual optimist). Would probably be better, at least for me, if we met towards the end of the day; or if during the prime time hours, if we met on Thurs. or Monday. However, don't let my vote count for much. Judy
Thursday & Friday are work days for me. Monday is a work day too, doing walk-thrus in preparation of reviews, but when it comes time for the horns to unite in song, seems like it would be a good time raise a mug and cheer?
Carl, As our official (or non-official) leader, I think you should tell us a time and a place to meet. Maybe once on Saturday as the show winds down for the day and maybe sometime on Monday. As for me, I'll be in the engine tent next to the Caterpillar. Stop in and say hello as you walk around. Looking forward to seeing the YF gang.
I'll pass on THAT designation. Leaders get shot! This year will be kinda tough. In addition to my faux role as a salesman, editor, IT guy and general pain in the @$$ to anyone trying to spam YF... I'm post-op as of yesterday and not actually sure I can make it to FLIBS on Thursday or Friday. If I go on opening day (or the next), it'll be for 2-3 hours and then I'm relegated to Percoset status. Yep, Camper's takin' a trip! Long story, short... and I was trying to keep a lid on this... I'm walkin' kinda funky right now. You guys choose a time & place to raft up. I'll *try* to join you.
Hi Carl, Sorry to hear you've been under the knife - I hope they washed it first Put yourself first and get fit soon! You're in our thoughts and prayers. David.
Thanks David. It's not serious, but it's uncomfortable. The stitches are suppose to come out November 4th, which is AFTER the boat show. Yuck! Let's get this thread back on topic. I'm good for a Monday afternoon, raft-up, wrap-up...
FLIBS Raft-up How about a meet-up on Sand Pebble at slip B-228? My boat has a great upper deck, comfortable enough for a group of beer drinking end of show cheers and honks. If Monday works for our non-titular leader, it works for me. And don't worry about my boat being a trawler - we're all going the same speed at the boat show. Judy
So, Carl, was it just a run-of-the-mill knife-fight wound or a major hangnail-ectomy? Or, maybe, due to the ministrations of your friendly nurse?
OK, to put rumors to rest, I got my butt kicked in defense of a woman's honor. Apparently... she wanted to keep it.
