As our traffic continues to climb, we need to upgrade our hardware to meet the demand. On Wednesday, August 4, we will be migrating to new servers. The migration is scheduled to occur between 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM Mountain Time (700 - 1300 GMT, August 4th). I expect downtime between 30-60 minutes within this 6 hour window, maybe more.
Bumping this thread as a reminder. YF will be offline in the early hours of tomorrow morning. We should be back up and running before dawn on the east coast, but there is a very real possibility that Murphy will attempt to supersede best efforts.
Hi, As it is 09.46 GMT now the halfway point in the window is approaching. I hope it all goes smoothly and YF is up and running stronger and better than ever with minimal disruption.
Got Speed? On the old hardware, page loads were taking up to 2-3 seconds. This morning, I'm measuring page loads in the milliseconds. Definitely much faster for me. How about you?
Yes, it is faster, about two seconds to load which is at least twice as fast as before. Next week I will have a new Mac dedicated to the Net, so hopefully I will be down to milliseconds as well.
I had a Big Server change today also. Betty from the Diner didn't bring me my Grilled Cheese & Ham for lunch today. Suzy, the new one, was much slimmer & faster. Is that the kind of feedback you were looking for?
Running noticably faster on mind end. I was thinking to myself "Self, this site is running faster today, that guy Carl is a genious" Then again, I don't want to see the bill for this upgrade.
Yeah but I bet you can spell genius? The site is much faster and I appreciate the effort. ps No offense intended CaptTom, I crank out typos with the best of them.
I'm on a slower connection to the web right now, and I notice the forum page loads much father than when I sit on a very fast connection. Good work Carl.
And I can report that with my new iMac 27" the loadtime was milliseconds. Unfortunately the whole machine gave up after a few hours so I am now waiting for a replacement in a couple of weeks...
No, it is back in it´s package so I don´t get upset of seeing it... What I liked though was the Time Capsule that is connected to the netcable and distributing it both with wire and wireless to my other computers. And at the same time performs backups of all three. A little magic box!
