I am looking for pictures of this yacht. She is a converted PT boat from WWII and plied the waters from Miami to Cape Cod where I saw her in 1960. I do know the yacht has been destroyed after falling into a huge state of disrepair but I am building a model of her from the attached picture which is the only one I can find.
If anyone has any info on this yacht I would love to hear from you. Thanks. Pete

    Moby Dick II

    Hello Pete,
I am curious about your interest in the converted MTB. She was only a hull at the end of the war so she never really became an MTB.
She was "Marie Ann My Mud" (or something to that effect) then became the Moby Dick II. BY 1967 she was called the Jova IV. I lost track of her after that.
I have many photos as my father was her Captain in the early 60's between Montreal Canada, Lake Worth Florida and Nassau. I remember her well as she was my favourite. I spent many hours onboard.

I believe I can fill in some history.
Back in the early-mid '80s when I was in my early 20s & running yachts out of Greenwich CT/Ft. Lauderdale, the boat you are referring to was named "Firebird" and was running out of City Island, NY.
The last I saw of her, she came limping into Freeport in tow at the crack of dawn with windows broken out & Coast guard pumps feverously dewatering. They believed she hit a submerged container during their crossing late at night on the way to a Bahamian charter & was in major trouble.
I honestly never heard of or saw Firebird again. This isn't to say she wasn't repaired, I left yachting for the family business shortly after & lost contact with the old crew.
