I am currently in school as a construction science and managment major at Virginia Tech.....My question was how do you go about becoming a yacht project manager? Are there special schools? I know the materials are much different, however, some of the managment characteristics of them have to be realtively similar....I have been around boats and yachts....both small and very large my whole life.....enjoy talking about boats more than anything......just a curiosity

Usually a lot of the project/construction managers I have worked with are guys that have worked there way up from the shop floor or been around the business for a long time. I am talking from experience working at Palmer Johnson, Trinity Yachts and Hatteras Yachts. Most companies you have to put in your time and get a very good knowledge of how the boats are built at that particular company. Very hard going from college into that type of position.
