This vessel came up in the tender thread. http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2071&highlight=pirate May be blasphemous to the more conservative here but I have to ask. Has Artwork at this level ever been done on a larger vessel, say 60metre+? My imagination has just gone in to overload...
We had a discussion about this a few months ago. Yachting is semi-traditional in nature, but more builders and buyers are pushing the envelope in recent years, i.e., more radical designs, innovative ideas, etc. It's only a matter of time before someone recognizes these Big White Boats could be the ultimate painter's "canvas". Cost may not be an issue for some, but I can tell you the cost to paint the Midnight Express Pirate Boat was $50,000. This was quoted to me by Dave Hunter from Invisions Paintworks, who painted the Pirate Boat. My boat was in his shop for paint work the same week the Pirate Ship was being airbrushed. Granted... there are far more intricate details to a paint scheme like this then you would expect on a yacht, but when you start pricing the labor, materials and skill by the linear foot... it won't be cheap! The cost to design it? $10,000 (?) The cost to paint it? $500,000 (?) The expression on the faces of the yacht club croud? Priceless!
I might lean a bit more towards HR Giger. Well, perhaps not, fine in parts of the house but might cause some issues in some ports.
