    Has any one heard rumor or know for fact if a 150 footer Feadship was dropped at a major yard in Ft. Lauderdale within the past few weeks?

    Hi,

    The yards in Ft Lauderdale that could lift one in the first place are not that many so if it happened then the story should be well known by now so I would think that it is a non runner although I did hear that there has been at least one that had major problems getting hauled at Jones in Miami in the last month or so.

    Maybe this is where what you heard came from.

    There was once a accident in a shipyard in Ft Lauderdale with the 161 ft Feadship Teleost (but this was already in 2001).If you google you will find some pictures.

    I remember when that yacht had fallen. I don't remember were I was at the time but I remember being surprized at how fast I had heard from the time the accident took place. It must had traveled half way around the world that same day just by word of mouth.
    I am having a strong suspission that what I had heard just recently was not anything true but just bored crew talking smack.:confused:

    It must all be kept quiet.

    It happened at the end of 2004 as well. I was working on a ferretti in Rollys yard in Fort Lauderdale and from the yard you could see directly into another yard. (not going to say the name) They lifted a yacht in the 150 range and sure enough dropped it!!!! The bow sank!!!

    Would that happen to be a Hatteras?

    If its the same boat, the owner completed a refit and still cant sell the vessel.

    Thats the one!

    This is one of two yachts owned by the same guy. Thank god he is into insurance. That boat had a large refit and is for sale and on the charter market. The other Yacht is a 155 Christensen. Dont ask...

    Do you Know what happened to cause it to fall? equiptment failure ? rigged wrong ? or something else?

    That would ruin your day,possible your life if the yard owner didn't have enough insurance.

    I was told equipement failure due to being overloaded, but I've learnt that you don't believe what everyone says down here. So what really happened I'm not sure?
