Yacht Drags Anchor Hits S/Y in St Barts

Ocean Emerald, the lens shaped yacht, drug anchor into a sailboat with a couple rails on the sail boat damaged and some reported damage to the tender.

Au Contrare, the shape it is very aerodynamique! That's why it had so much power horsing around.LOL. They should have put Bruces centerline.

From the first photo, it looks like the yacht was far enough away to avoid hitting the sailboat if proper actions were taken. In the second picture, you can see a crew member on the radio. Wouldn't be as simple as hitting the bow thrusters until you reposition? Just curious since the largest vessel I ever ran was a 26 foot center console.

Two things I'm noting and am curious about: first, starting in photo 2 I don't see anchor chain but I'm guessing that's an optical illusion. The secend thing is that there appears to be propwash from the bow thruster pushing in the wrong direction.

I'm no expert but I find it interesting that the chain 'disappears' in the series of images.

I reckon the chain can be seen at the top edge of the Anchor Pocket in the last 3 pics

The chain is there, you can see it clearly if you download the photo onto your PC and then brighten it.

This reminds me of a time when I set anchor in a small Bay, like a prudent sailor I decided to give it some time prior to setting out in the tender to shore in order to make sure that the anchor was properly set while keeping an eye on a shore landmark for reference.

About 2 hours later a couple of guys came into the Pub and asked who owned (my boat), it seems that I hooked a rock shelf, and when the tide went out it took my boat with it. Lucky for me, these guys caught it and reset the anchor in a location better known to the locals only.
Yes they did get dinner and beer on me.

It took me going full screen @ 150x zoom, but it's there. Figured it was an illusion. What looked like thruster propwash going the wrong way is also just from the chain dragging. Been in that situation a few times with smaller boats. Keep your head clear and your actions measured while your heart is beelining for your stomach. Luckily I never made contact with others. I feel sorry for the captain. He'll be reliving that one in his nightmares for a long time.

My eyes failed me.
