We are fitting new deck gear on a trawler yacht with 225kg anchors.... would be grateful for opinions on the best control systems for windlass & style of chainstopper. Chain clamp versus flip over stopper, and control systems for hydraulic windlass etc etc...

    Hi,

With a 225kg anchor, a claw-type chain stopper would be the best bet. With a good, thick bottle-screw it will also hold when the anchors are up to the bow; that means no excess loading on the windlass when under way.

Thank you for your advice - that makes sense! Do you have any views on the control of the windlass? - We have proportional hydraulic windlass's and are looking for a good walkabout control system.
