Where are the best places to look during and early in water inspection for signs of erosion of hull material on the aluminum hulled boats. Is there any good advice as to the places to look if a buyer is in the know on the Roamers. I am speaking of early and obvious indicators that would likely lead to finding something more substantial during an out of water hull survey. Things that would be a good reason to not invest time and money by going into it any further. Also is there a sterotypical location to find erosion of the aluminum above and below the waterline. Thanks in Advance, Doug Doty...
Bauxite, really... Wood - rots/turns to dust. GRP (fiberglass) - blisters/turns to toulene. Steel - rusts/turns to iron. Aluminum - forms self-protective patina/survives..., unless itz galvanic action at work. Then, look out: "Popcorning" - puffs of bauxite over small/bigger & bigger "cavities" in the hull. Proximity to nibral props will cause this. Sorry, no Crest fixes this - just epoxy (Interlux 2001E). Just watch out for the dissimilar metals. Thatz all. Whew!
