Volvo TAMD74p with ZF reverse gear, lost forward

    lost forward underway @1500rpms. Engine rpms stayed solid @1500 but the shaft idled. the gear remained cool to the touch and and will engage to reverse but not forward. suspect solenoid valve or signal failure but ant suggestions would be appreciated, the controls utilize 12 volt solenoid operated valves,

    Did you try to manually put it in forward? This will tell you if you lost signal or similar issue not internal to the trans.

    I don't know it by heart but there is a procedure for manually putting the engine in gear that can be found in the operators manual. I would pull the wire harness connections to transmission and clean them completely and see if that makes any difference.
