To the electronic gurus. Just returned from a short trip. Intermittently, my radio would fail to receive a return signal/voice reply. My broadcasts were apparently all heard, but I didn't always hear the response. What things should I look at? perhaps my squelch (spelling) is failing internally? The ICOM unit is about 10 years old.
And how old the antenna? Radios and sticks are cheap (considering). Time for updates instead of messing with old stuff. If the safety of your ship is important, it's cheap. This fall, I have 3 tall 9db sticks and 3 radios to replace. All working fine but it's time.
Google your Icom model number. There was one model that had that problem. You can send it into Icom for repair.
Thanks. My unit is about 10 years old. I think I'm just going to follow Capt R's advice. It was merely a nuisance this time, but don't want that failure when I really need the unit. I have two fixed and one handheld aboard so I was able to get by.
The ICOM factory repair shop in Tallahassee FL always fixed us up. Sadly, my fine radios are past EOL and not repairable anymore by any of the factory shops. https://www.icomamerica.com/en/support/repair/unsupported-products.aspx https://www.icomamerica.com/en/support/repair/default.aspx
