Good evening , I didn't konw where I should post my question, so sorry if that is the wrong thread. I found some pictures from my Mallorca holiday trip on my computer which I want to post here, but they are too big (more than 100kb) , how can I change that? Thank you for helping me.
I think you are allowed up to 200 KB for JPEG images..but remember it has to be at 640 wide X 480 high pixels and not much larger than that. You would have to reduce the size. I do not know what you have on your pc or laptop but you should be able to right click on the picture, click "EDIT" and whatever editing software you have on the pc should come up, PAINT should be the most common. If PAINT comes up simply head to the top by the horizontal bar and click "IMAGE" then "RESIZE & SKEW" and simply type in a number you feel would reduce the photo justifiably. So for example, if the pic is 800 pixels wide, chosing 80 on the height (vertical) and 80 on the width (horizonal) would reduce it to 640 X 480 perfectly. If it is 1200 pixels wide...you could maybe use 60 and see how much it reduces it by... Hope that helps a bit.
I believe it is just 640 wide. If you adjust a photo to be 640x480 without cropping it and keeping the same size constraints, the image will become distorted.
Photobucket I use this site often. There are others like it available if for some reason this one is not available in your location. This one allows many tweaks, including size, and easy transfer to web sites. http://photobucket.com/
Rules Regarding Links & Images... 1. Links: PLEASE be careful about the links you post on YachtForums. While we encourage links that are relevant, educational, informative or just plain fun, remember that other sites can benefit by a link from YachtForums... especially other forums or magazines that are similar in nature. Signatures or posts not meeting this criteria will be deleted. If you alter the same after the fact, your membership will be removed as well. 2. Images: PLEASE be careful about the source of the images you post. If there is ANY question, DON'T post it! Duplicating, hyper-linking or posting images without the consent of the owner, may be a violation of copyright. 3. Hot-Linking Images: We don't allow it. Period.
Photo sizing Chris Craft Antique Boat Club has photo sizing linked into their site. Why not YachtForums?
No, they do not. They display thumbnail images in their forum that have been hot-linked to "PostImage", an image hosting site. We don't allow hot-linking to image hosting sites because the customer or host can change the image at a later date, inserting something less benign than a Roamer into the link. We've had this happen before which resulted in a porn image being inserted into a file, thus automatically displayed on YF. Our moderators and sr. members generally watch the most recent posts and threads. It would be impossible for any of us to constantly police the other 115,000 posts on YF, dating back to 2004. In the Internet age, if you can post to a forum, then you have the digital ability to use image software.
@ Carl: Is there no free addon-on for Bulletin-Forums which display a thumbnail of an uploaded image and shows the big one in a light box by click? @ All: Tipp for resizing images: Pixlr Editor: http://pixlr.com/editor/. It is an online based picture editor similar to Photoshop.
Microsoft Office has Microsoft Office Picture Manager which is handy to re-size pictures to the correct size. You can re-size pictures and still keep the proper proportions. Once that is done you can use the attachment feature to upload the desired photo(s). Again, you should comply with YF's policy on copyrights etc.
vB has a built-in script for generating thumbnails, but it's not the format we want to use at YF. Not all posts should have a thumbanil, such as our features, news & reviews, therefore I deactivated the option. Besides that, it adds more processes to the server and we strive to keep access times minimized.
A great (and simple) tool I've used a lot in the past before I had Photoshop was "Mihiv Image Resizer". It's basic, no frills, but effective and does absolutely everything needed... and it works for individual images or batches, thus greatly speeding up the process if you've got a bunch of pics to resize. http://www.mihov.com/eng/ir.html
In a Mac you can resize and make some adjustments in the preview that is included with all Macs. Otherwise most Mac-users have iPhoto where you can make a lot with the pictures.
That's all I use. It works very well, batch processing, rezise, exif data, rename, etc. etc. The price is great as well. $0.00
You guys make it sound like... 'press a button and you're done". Not so fast... With every image, in every review we've done - not to mention simple pics I take on YF cruises - I've spent countless hours cropping, zooming, color correcting, sharpening, formatting (and sometimes pixelating)... all to make each image as dynamic as possible. Nobody knows this. I'm reasonably certain nobody cares. But I do... (thanks for the XN View tip. That's new to me)
