    Tsunami Warning (cancelled)

It is reported a new earthquake in the same area as three months ago, west of Sumatra, tonight 11 PM local time. A Tsunami-warning is issued concerning the same area around the Indian Ocean as the Earthquake was 8.2-8.5 on the Richter scale.

Evacuations is underway in many areas and eventhough it is dark and rain in places, with no crowds on the beaches, there are still Hotels at danger.

Lets hope this warning will reach out in time if the Tsunami will be a big one, do you know people around this area, a call can still be of help....

Update; Two hours after the earthquake there are reports of casualties from nearby islands, but no Tsunami yet, why the risk is moving to more distant places, even in Africa...

News from a French in Phuket : there was an alert on TV, and they're leaving the area. According to him the earthquake was weaker but longer (around 1 min.) than the December one. Note that it's the night actually in this part of the world.

I think it`s a big advantage that most of the people are warned.

It is now clear that the Tsunami after last nights earthquake was not of great danger to people, a 3 m wave is reported to have hit the island of Simeulue.

Most damage was by the earthquake itself, on the island of Nias there is feared over 2.000 death when 70% of the buildings in a town collapsed.

There has so far been eight aftershocks of a magnitude between 5 and 6. The reason there wasn´t a bigger Tsunami might have to do with less movement of the seabed structure, or it occured at more shallow waters than three months ago.

It is unfortunately another tragedy to the region that is still suffering. Most of the buildings destroyed at the previous disaster will never be rebuilt and there might be a restriction to build up to 3 km from the coastline...

According to other reports, approx 400 people could have been killed. One more time it's hard to know the truth! The good point is that the alert system seems to work...

The figures of casualties after this kind of disaster will sometimes never be 100% reliable, simply because people will not be found at all.

After the past Tsunami I have followed the figures which is now 228.000 confirmed dead but still estimates of 300.000 as a total.

Same as with predictions of earthquakes and tsunamis, where this article was published recently and both predicted this new earthquake and had it questioned by a professor...
