I woke up at 2:00 AM, unable to sleep. I got on the computer to check YF when I heard a diesel truck start up and go down my street. I thought this was unusual at this hour, so I went outside and found my truck was gone! I called the police immediately. They just left my house about an hour ago. I'm totally bummed! I looked for 2 years to find that truck and I've only had it for a couple of weeks. I had just traded my 2000 Ford Expedition with 150,000 miles for a better tow truck with a legendary engine. The 'new' truck was a 2000 Ford F250 7.3 diesel 4x4. Darn thing was nearly flawless with 80,000 one owner miles. So here I am, on the computer at 5:00 AM, looking at the Auto Trader for another truck. I should be looking for a new place to live because South Florida is going to hell! This was my newest ride, before it became a statistic...
A true shame, sorry to hear about that. Hope the police will be able to do something since you caught the issue while it was ongoing. Those are really nice trucks. Sorry for your loss and wish you find your reward in the near future. Regards, Alfred
Hey bro, That SUCKS! Got your text earlier. Will keep an eye out as I'm sure your YF family will do also. Call your insurance guy to see if you can get a rental. I'll call later.
Good grief. With all the Bentley and Benz product littering the lanes in South Florida, why swipe your diesel truck? Some things I will just never understand. Perhaps I should be more closely guarding my 1997 Explorer! My condolences for your loss.
Got your text this morning.... phone woke me up and I was all confused, wondering if it was time to get up and go to work, or what. That totally blows about the truck! It's not that things can't be replaced, but it's such a frustration to have to deal with it all.
Considering how few 4x4's are in Florida that should stick out like a sore thumb (except that it's white). I'd guess it's in a containor heading overseas by now or heading north where it will blend in. I'm sure most of us have been in your shoes at one time or another. I still remember coming out of the hotel on the last day of a 3 week job and seeing another car where I'd parked my truck. It still ticks me off to think of it. Sorry for your loss, but at least it's still just a thing. Glad nobody stuck a gun in your face to get it. P.S., I actually got my truck back a few weeks later, but unfortunately wish I hadn't. You should hope they find it today or never. Good luck. Say good-bye and replace it asap.
Sorry that this happened to you. Not just South Florida. Had a rental car stolen in Texarkana. Hope that this all sorts itself out for you.
Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I added an item to my To-Do list today when I realized my garage door remote control was in the truck, so I'm trying to reprogram the existing circuit board so I don't have to buy a new receiver. According to the Geiko claims adjuster, this is a hot truck for thieves due to the ultra reliable 7.3 engine. Chop shops are pulling the engines and trannies out of the 2000-2003 F250's and putting them into 2004-2007 F250' that have International 6.0 engines that were plagued with problems Geiko's policy is wait 21 days for recovery. After that, they cut a check for KBB retail value, minus my deductible. Thanks, but I'd rather have my truck back!
Sh*tty way to start the day Carl. Hopefully it doesn't end up in a chop shop, or isn't stripped then recovered. But like you said, (I have the 350 version) it's a hot list truck because of the parts. We've dealt with Geico on a stolen car before, and much like you, I simply wanted the car back, however they did make the process relatively painless on the replacement costs, v. KBB. Hopefully you have the same experience should she not show up in the next weeks.
Sorry to hear that someone got your truck. Don't let the insurance company's initial statements about paying you X-deductible put you off. It has been my experience that any insurance company's initial offer amount should be treated as just that, an initial offer amount. Best of luck in finding a suitable replacement.
Sorry to hear your news Carl. We work hard to buy our cars and then some turd nicks them! Looks like you put a lot of time, effort and money into that truck and it's real shame you've lost it. Lets hope the cops catch them stealing the next one and then put them away for a while.
Carl, You may want to go to autotrader.com or cars.com and see what equivalent trucks to yours are selling for. If it's more than KBB you can try dickering with your claims adjuster.
Your 2000 7.3 was indeed a serious motor as it had forged connecting rods. So... The cops will find your ride a short tow away from the local chop shops, sans motive mechanicals. Your opportunity then would be to buy the truck back from the ins. co. and stuff a newer/rebuilt/freshly stolen (hey, put an ad in FleaBay to get the old one back) replacement 7.3 or equivalent (Deere?) in the bay. Those 4 X 4 locking hubs were known for corrosion issues, BTW. After the GF and Blue MB debacles, and now this fresh hell, your luck is due to change for the better.
Find Your Car: Ford F250 Listings Near Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308 - AutoTrader.com Carl, I did a quick search on autotrader.com and it looks like you should press Geico for between $16K and $18K IMHO.
