On Saturday, December 8th, 2007, the 2nd Annual South Florida "Toys-For-Tots" Car Rally brought together about 140 exotic cars, including Ferraris, Lambos, Porsches, NSX's, GT-40's and the odd, stunted growth Lotus or two. This was a first class event, organized by one of the moderators at a Ferrari forum and proof that forums truly unite our interests. The event kicked off with breakfast and a gathering at Donald Trump's "Mara Lago" on the island at Palm Beach. From this point, the Florida Highway Patrol, in conjunction with local authorities from each town we passed through, gave us a police escort along A1A south to Ft. Lauderdale where the parade stopped over at Shelton Ferrari for refreshments and to look at more big-kid go-karts. From Shelton, FHP led the caravan out to I-95 for a semi-high speed blast to Seminole Hard Rock Casino, where participants were greeted by a live rock band in the parking lot, as well as lunch at one of Seminole's restaurants. Never one to miss the opportunity to have less auto-educated, curvy gender types, mistake my car for a Ferrari... I logged off and joined in. The first picture are my accomplices for the event. For future reference guys, stuffed animals work equally as well for meeting girls as the walking, licking and pooping type...
This is Mara Lago's outside dining area, looking west over the pool and grounds. The intracoastal is in the background. And yes, that's a military transport vehicle, here to collect toys.
Behind Mara Lago is the valet parking lot, which for our purposes was the staging area for the event. The first pics are the NSX line up...
These two NSX's resemble a Florida stop light. Yellow means go faster. Red means... it's legal as long as you don't get caught!
Arriving at Shelton Ferrari in Ft. Lauderdale, FHP closed down the northbound, right-hand lane of US-1. Exotic cars stretched for about 1/2 mile. Must have been some sight for the uninitiated...
No Ferrari event would be complete without a mishap. After all, this where the term "Chariots of Fire" was derived... right?
Fantastic pictures, and even better event! Should make for some very happy kidos come Christmas morning!
Err, I take it then that there were no checkpoints, lapboards, etc? I did quite a few SCCA rallys back in the '60s and '70s. But our field of cars looked nothing like that! Kelly
Great pics, Carl. Lot of NSX cars out there. #15 was worth the price of admission, poor guy. Looks like a much more upscale 'T for T' version compared to the HondaHarley bunch that did their thing on Sunday.
