Interested in a cruising / RVing retirement lifestyle for a couple. Debating whether to (1) buy a used trawler (36' $250,000 range ) or used motoryacht like those Chriscraft 1970s 42' commander around $50,000 and live aboad year round for 4 - 5 yrs and trade it in for a RV, or to cut maintenance and docking headache, just charter a trawler one month a year and spent the rest of the year RVing around the country. Which make more sense?

As a Captain , I get asked this and many guestions like this from alot of people. 1st, the fastest way to go through your money will be getting the chris craft. They usually have gas engines, need I say more....2cd. the trawler is a good idea and at a lower cost. It sounds like chartering would be the best choise and then Rv the good ole USA. Sounds like you want to have some fun and relax so if you buy any type of boat and you dont have someone taking care of it constantly, then you will be doing alot of maint. and repairs rather than relaxing. Good luck!
