I just love how the first video is titled "Naval Disaster"...

No damage to propulsion, no flooding, no injuries.

    "Disaster".

No status on the cargo ship.
I fear the disaster is Another USN ship collision and bad PR.
Sadly, another dozen USN officers, are not advancing their careers as planned, from just a couple of days ago.

I am pretty sure these carriers are built for war and have a strong/strengthened bow, hull and numerous bulkheads, no sinking going on..

The career of the navigator on duty (OOD) and the skipper may however be compromised like Capt. Ralph hinted at.:(

Got my license renewed and not impressed:
No longer a passport type booklet, but this stupid stiff plastic paper that can’t be folded.
(I had a thread on the USCG Renewal but it went downhill, hence this posting)
I will post details on why this renewal was a Royal P.I.T.Arse, stay tuned)
Had a pic, but rejected for being too large.

I made a few mistakes renewing my USCG 100 ton ticket this time:

(Under the New System one has to download and fill out numerous forms, like 20 or 24 forms, scan, copy both sides, then email to the USCG, or their contractors: Got the feeling some civilian low bidder company got the application)

My first mistake: I had paid the wrong Evaluation Fee, Different for Ratings vs Officers and I just paid $95 instead of the $125 or whatever the difference was.
Got a phone call or email after 2 weeks pointing out the error.
I paid the difference online but couldn’t just send the receipt, Noo, you have to re-submit the whole package and start over again and going to the bottom of the stack,

Another 2-3 weeks later I got another call or email: I had submitted the Drug Test with the Medical Application, Wrong, the drug test goes with main Application to the USCG, Not with the Medical app to the Medical Department of the USCG, Duh.. (stupid me thinking the drug test was part of the Medical)
Had to redo and re-send the whole thing again, the 24 pages or whatever it was, then to the bottom of the stack, again.

Now we are 6-8 weeks into this, finally starting to relax and hope for the new ticket in the mail.
    Wrong…:(

Got another call or email: Ah so sorry Cap, page 18 is missing.
Ok, my bad, so sorry can I just send you page 18..?
NO, YOU HAVE TO SUBMIT THE WHOLE PACKAGE ONCE MORE AND GO BACK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE STACK.

At this point I had almost given up, but another 3-4 weeks later I got an email saying that my application had passed the review but was now going to the Proffesional Evaluation.
    (Oh crop, now what?)
4 hours later another email saying my whole thing was approved and will be mailed shortly.

Sure enough I got the flimsy piece of plastic paper license in the mail a few days ago.
The instructions from the USCG said to fold it as needed to fit in your uniform pocket.
(It won’t fold, the material is too stiff, totally unacceptable, but not my problem, won’t renew this thing again, the above is just a heads up: Don’t make my mistakes, pay attention to the details. )

That story is a bit short. Hull gash forward and a third tap before the stern.
That big pipe you see is the incinerator exhaust.
Yes, That #3 stb elevator seems to be undamaged.

Truman heading back to Crete. Skipper (and others?) will probably be relived there.

I have a personal feeling the Truman F'd-up & turned to port ahead of the cargo ship.
The cargo ship turned to port to reduce the collision.
IMO, the cargo ship saved the day and avoided a head-on event.
The Truman and escort (to the south) were slowly staging #1 for southbound into the Suez. I feel they found them selves to far south of the inbound traffic scheme and channel range entrance, then turned N E to correct,, while transiting thru a busy cargo ship anchorage. AIS was off.

The escort turned his AIS on at the time of the event.
Now showing she was way to far south of the Suez range entrance when he started squawking.

The Cargo ship dropped its pilot at the end of the range and just turned N W into the traffic scheme. No pilots yet on the flat-top or escort.

USS Harry S. Truman Arrives in Greece for Repairs Following Mediterranean Collision
    Mike Schuler
    February 17, 2025

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) has arrived at U.S. Naval Support Activity Souda Bay, Greece, for emergency repairs following a collision with a merchant vessel near Port Said, Egypt.

The incident occurred on February 12 at approximately 11:46 p.m. local time when the carrier collided with the Panama-flagged bulk carrier MV Besiktas-M, which had just completed transit through the Suez Canal.

The collision caused damage to the carrier’s starboard quarter, affecting multiple spaces including storage rooms, a maintenance space, line handling space, and the fantail. However, aircraft elevator number three remained unaffected and fully operational.

“While the ship is fully mission capable and the ship conducted flight operations following the collision, pulling into port for emergent repairs will enable the ship to continue deployment as scheduled,” said Capt. Dave Snowden, Harry S. Truman’s commanding officer.

The Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC) will oversee the Emergent Repair Availability (ERAV), with support from an assessment team including structural engineers and naval architects from Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Local industry partners and ship’s force personnel will assist in the repair effort.

“The Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center’s ability to mobilize resources within and outside the theater to conduct repairs underscores the warfighting capability of the world’s most powerful Navy,” said Vice Adm. J. T. Anderson, commander U.S. Sixth Fleet.

The incident occurred as the carrier was returning from combat operations in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, where it had been supporting strikes against Iran-backed Houthi targets in Yemen. Despite the collision, there were no reports of flooding or injuries, and the ship’s propulsion plants remained unaffected.

The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group continues to maintain operational status across geographic regions. The strike group includes Carrier Air Wing 1, USS Gettysburg (CG 64), and three Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers: USS Stout, USS The Sullivans, and USS Jason Dunham.

This incident recalls the U.S. Navy’s 2017 collisions involving the USS John S. McCain and USS Fitzgerald, which resulted in 17 sailor fatalities and led to comprehensive investigations into training and operational readiness.

    The collision remains under investigation.
