In about a week, the 12th edition of the Superyacht Cup will take place in Palma. "The Superyacht Cup Ulysse Nardin Palma 2008 is being held from June 11th – 14th at Dique del Oeste in Palma. The Superyacht Cup is now in its 12th year, making it the biggest, longest-running Superyacht event in the world. The regatta site is located on the western side of the Bay of Palma and only a short distance from Palma city centre. This year's event will follow the same format as previous years, opening with a welcome party and reception at the Castillo de San Carlos on the 11th, followed by three days of racing in the Bay of Palma and culminating in the Superyacht Cup Ulysse Nardin prize-giving Gala Evening on June 14th. This year around 20-25 yachts are expected to take part with the fleet split into two classes, the traditional SYC cruising class and an IRC class for the more performance-oriented yachts. The Superyacht Cup will once again be supporting Joves Navegants, a local charity which provides sail-training schemes for under-privileged children in the Balearics. This year, 500 Euros will be donated to the charity for each yacht entry in the Superyacht Cup. Established as an official Charity organization in March 2003 after 12 years in an association, Joves Navegants seeks to promote social integration for the young people of Mallorca by developing suitable intervention programs, making the most of the biggest natural resource of the islands: the sea. Every year, an average of 300 young people, mostly from orphanages or residential homes for children with special needs, are taken out for days of adventure. On a side note, the 140 foot Senso One, previously known as Mari Cha IV is slated to take part in the 12th edition of the Superyacht Cup. For those who may not know the Senso One still holds the Trans-Atlantic speed record for a monohull crossing in 6 days. She is capable of speeds over 40 knots. *** http://www.thesuperyachtcup.com/#news
