    350 HP, 5L engine, naturally aspirated on regular gas.
    Darn good start.

    Dollar per HP may be the determining factor.
    Not everybody needs or wants wild HP engines on their boats.

    Honda's outboard motor history surprised me. At one point they were a fairly major presence after four-strokes became standard. But since then the brand has faded. Even latecomer Suzuki has managed to pull ahead of Honda. Honda's gained a reputation for reliability and durability, but despite that the brand has become very much a niche player in the outboard market. Given Honda's competitive stance in the automotive industry I thought the company would compete better in the outboard market.

    We have a 75 Honda on our 15’ dinghy. About 7 years sold and 500 hours. Really haven’t had any issues with it.

    Not a late comer, just did not deliver large HP engines for a while in the U S market.
    Suzuki has proven a good HP per dollar at purchase.
    It is the rebuild and short block repairs that get you down the road.
    Similar to some other brands, they are not economically re-buildable.
    New power head or whole new outboard. Probably the common move these days anyway.

    Just hard for me to really go there as I'm a Detroit Diesel Fart;;;; Rebuild forever.
