I am looking at a 1982 70ft trawler built by the Sweeping Boat Building Co. and cannot find any information. Has anyone heard of them?
I've never heard of them. IS it a shrimp trawler that was converted to a yacht? Have a marine surveyor inspect the boat........
Hi, I looked at the link yu posted elsewhere online asking the same question. It does not look like it was ever a commercial trawler and it doesn't look like it would be very stable at sea. All that extra weight up top could make it very unstable. As CaptJ suggested get a surveyor to have a good look at it before you part with your cash.
I agree with K1K1 all that extra windage and weight in the "apartment" up top could result in a very unstable boat, you might want to look into a stability test and or stabilizers.
Appreciate the information. I will definitly have a survey performed. Any additional information would be appreciated
A friend has just bought the "Sweeping"....I ran it on a seatrial on Thursday last for National Liquidators. It appears to have been built in Taiwan....possibly at a yard we may have heard of Chung Wha, Lien Wha...certainly the name Sweeping rings no bells...can anyone shed any light on an actual builder? It is stabilised.....Seabrace...remember them? They were not running on the seatrial which was conducted in calm conditions with 15 to 20 kt offshore breeze which gave a bit of a destroyer feel in the turns away from the wind.
Yachtseek, Your valued opinion is requested Yachtseek, Your valued opinion is requested. We are considering bidding on this trawler and would value your impressions and observations made during your sea trial of the same. We are on the other coast and hope you might consider a phone contact to share what you know about her. If so please request our phone number or share here. Thank you so much for your consideration.
Yachtseek came and went in February 2010, and hasn't been heard from since. You might try sending him a PM. Do not post phone numbers, e-mails, etc. on an open forum. Good luck.
Thank you for the fast reply Thank you for the fast reply NYCAP123. I appreciate the heads up. I see you are from LI, originally I hailed from Islip and was a boat builder back in the late seventies in West Babylon. Take care, be well
I do a lot of work in that area. We used to have many boat builders and baymen here. Unfortunately their property became more valuable than their skills, You be well also.
