We have purchased a 68' Roamer in Florida and will need a surveyor for inspection. Preferrably experience with aluminum hulls. Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks

    Roamer purchase

Be sure to get it audio gauged, check against original plating thicknesses etc.

    The 68' Roamer :)

Wow -There were so few 68' Roamers ever built...Congratulations!!!
What was she formerly named - and what name have you given her (and dockage)?
    Best of everything!
    Sincerely,
    Capt. Phil Elliott

The 68' roamer that we are buying is in Ft. Lauderdale and it' name is Dream Chaser. The yacht was owned by a couple that owned it for 18 years and donated it to a charity. It is in very good condition overall. I am using Matt Jones to do the survey and a separate diesel mechanic to do the 71's and both generators. We really love the layout and are hoping the survey goes well next week. We are planning to have it guaged when we haul it out.

Matt Jones is a good surveyor, I have been the Captain on several boats he has surveyed and he is thorough.

Stafford is doing the diesel survey for the 1271's , Westerbeke and NL gens. I was told that Matt Jones knows aluminum hulls very well. Do you think that if Matt says the hull is good and he does not see a problem with it, do I still need to have the hull guaged? Any comments would be appreciated?

We started the survey on our 68' Roamer. Stopped after 6 hours. Found significant pitting on the stringers and ribs. Seller came down in price but not enough to fix the issues so we let it go. Mattew Jones was really a good surveyor. Wife is bummed and doesn't want to look anymore but I told her that this is how it goes and we just keep looking until we find the right one.

Tell her that finding a good boat is like finding a good man. I'm sure she'll relate to that. (Assuming she thinks she's found a good man, otherwise you're in big trouble on two fronts):D

Sorry to hear the roamer didn't work out for you. But, I guess it's much better to find out it didn't work out for you before you actually bought it. Tell your wife it's like a first date......sometimes you have to go out on a lot of first dates before you get one that sticks.......
