I have considered installing a 110v bilge pump in addition to the 12v pumps.
That way if i have a battery charger failure or leave my battery charger off I can still dewater the boat as water collects in the bilges.

does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Regarding the OP, i have a Ace Hardward 110 submirsable pump that works great and was only about $80 US. i use it for everything from cleaning up flooded basements to winterizing the boat.

It's never a bad idea to have extra bilge pumps, or ones that use a different source of electricity. Having a portable 12 volt battery charger on board is not a bad idea either.
