I am wondering what trawler type boats there are out there in the less than 50 foot range that have stand up engine rooms.
Standup in a boat under 50' would make for a very stubby boat. Can't think of one w/ 6' of headroom below decks. In the FB style I believe some of the older Hats had the engine rooms off the hall to the master. That would be over 50 though.
CHRIS CRAFT Corinathian 501 Motoryacht (50ft) have a stand up engineroom. About 6ft 4in I believe..room all around engines. Nice layout.
Morning, Savasa's (1979 46' Cheoy Lee LRC) ER is about 6'2" high, 15' wide X 9' long. Good space around machinery, for the most part but still some tight spots. Peter
We had a 48' DeFever that had a nice engine room. I'm 6' and couldn't quite stand up but it was pretty easy to get around in. The engine room was one of the things I liked most about it.
I like the Defever idea, I have been on one (may have been a new 48 or 49) and it seemed like a nice layout compromise all around. I was also in a Selene 44 recently and it seemed short on "living room" space and the engine room offered no more room than my 36 Sabreline.
The 48' and 49' Defevers have very different engine rooms. The 48' engine room is the one with walk around headroom and is accessed through a sound/water proof door in the middle stateroom. The 49' (at least the couple I've been on) has a a much more cramped engine room accessed either by a ladder under a galley counter or a hatch in the back deck. Though it was smaller it still wasn't too bad to work in. I had friend who was captain of a 49' DeFever and helped him some with routine maintenance.
The 49 wscott52 is referring to is the Pilothouse model. The 49 Cockpit model has even better headroom than the 48 and has been the more popular of the two by far, especially on the East Coast.
Hiya, We were on a Diesel Duck, Peking was her name, and I seem to recal a stand up engine room. 46' or so I think. Peter
