Alloy Yachts launch 67.20-meter "Vertigo"​

New Zealand top yacht manufacturer Alloy Yachts have just launched the very secret 67.20-meter yachts known as AY41 under construction. Of course she is also known by her the name revealed last year, "Vertigo". Interestingly, the launching of Vertigo comes on the heels of an 6.3 magnitude earthquake that rocked parts of New Zealand.

Vertigo is indeed of massive proportions, boasting an LOA of just over 67-meters, that's just over 220-feet long and makes her among some of the largest sail yachts in the world. At this length, she comes with a more than decent 12.53-meter overall beam and an impressive maximum draft of 9.10-meters. However, she can reduce that draft to about 5-meters for trolling shallower waters.

The Vertigo's build story started around October 2008 making her build schedule just about 29 months. Alloy Yachts handled the Naval Architecture on this build while Philippe Briand worked magic on the exterior styling. On the interior, Christian Liaigre's design pen flowed.

Vertigo's (AY41) hull was built using marine grade aluminum, as well as her stylish superstructure. Let's not forget that this build weighs in at a pretty hefty 837 tonnes, clearly and distinctly making her the largest yacht to be launched in the Southern Hemisphere and indeed in New Zealand.

On the interior, she boasts accommodation for ten guests. They will be slept in three double cabins, a twin and an extensive full beam Master Stateroom. On the technical side of things, she is powered by twin CAT C-32 DI-TTA V12 engines cranking 1,400 horse power each. They will be fed from 64,000 LT capacity fuel tanks with provision for about 13,900 LT of water.

Because of her deep draft, this massive yacht was launched on pontoons and towed by tugs to Auckland for the stepping of her twin masts for her ketch-rigged arrangement. Her sail-plan will come via North Sails. The mast, boom, and rigging has been manufactured by Southern Spars New Zealand & EC6+. Vertigo is expected to undergo sea trials soon after she receives her sailing gear. She is expected to be delivered just before Summer 2011.
