me and the admiral went to a low-key local boat show in Annapolis today. We went aboard a 53' Selene trawler yacht ("nice"), and a 63' Outer Reef (?) trawler yacht ("nicer"). If'n I had my druthers, the 63' definitely seems like the way to go, or to breathe life back into a cliche' from the '50s, there's no replacement for displacement. Saweet!! Those were the two largest trawler yachts open to the public, so we kicked a few tires and left. 'Twas a lot of fun, with a live band playing on shore and a BBQ going, plus beer and other comestibles available. I was given a piece of mostly-raw tuna that, had I not been told what it was, I would never have guessed. Yum! Had some peppery-hot, clear "stuff" on it, but apart from that - still no clue.

There was no admission fee, sponsors were friendly, polite and helpful, and I good time was had by all. The admiral and I got a ride to and from the parking area in a $63,000 Porsche Cayenne (sp?), a 4-door SUV supplied by the local (Annapolis) Porsche dealer, and piloted by a charming young woman who couldn't have been nicer. Would you believe the admiral actually had the nerve to ask me why I never took her for a test drive in such a vehicle before? I mean, I've taken her for test drives in two Ferraris, a Maserati Quattroporte 4-do', a M-B AMG, two BMW M-series and two Porsche 911s that I can remember. Not one of them made a lasting impression on her except for stark, naked FEAR! Then she turns around and asks me about an over-priced VW knock-off with a Porsche badge. PUKE! I tell you, there ain't no justice! That woman must have some sort of latent (?) death wish, to ask me a question like that!

Please don't confuse this local show with the October "Annapolis Yacht Exposition" every Fall. This was just a local endeavour by local brokers and dealers to "kick start" the summer boating season, and as such I hope it was a success. We had a very nice time.

The first "Yacht Collection Sale" was, by all accounts, a success. This gathering of Yachts For Sale, held at Chesapeake Harbour Marina Annapolis was spearheaded by a local Annapolis yacht broker. Other brokers and dealers embraced the concept of a new and brokerage "boats only" streamlined sale, that was mostly promoted by the web and e-mail blasts. The focus was on selected sail, trawlers, downeast, and motoryachts. There were about 60 boats displayed by 20 or so dealers and brokers. Admission was free, parking was free and there was a shuttle service to and from the sale provided by Porsche of Annapolis and Jaguar Land Rover Annapolis.

Look for future Yacht Collection Sale events at both Chesapeake Harbour and The Annapolis Yacht Basin- dates are already set for next Spring- April 15th, 16th and 17th, 2011. and perhaps this Fall 2010 in a time frame to coincide with the Annapolis Power and Sail Shows.
