Last week, my wife, some old friends, and I were privileged to watch the final launching of the Space Shuttle Atlantis from the shore at Space View Park in Titusville. As with hundreds of others, we arrived 3 days in advance to claim a prime viewing spot. We sat in lawn chairs in the rain and lightning, survived swarms of mosquitoes, stifling heat, and other privations. THEN, TWO MINUTES BEFORE LAUNCH TIME, A BOAT SLIDES BETWEEN US (on shore) AND THE LAUNCH TOWER. Our friend happened to be a professional videographer and turned our wrath into payback. Please watch the linked You Tube Video of "Inconsiderate Boater". BrianW

P.S. I know this boater is an exception and doesn't reflect the actions of the boaters on this forum!

Normally, a post like this would become a behind the screen discussion among our mods as whether it should be removed or not. Before Lars or Kevin makes a call on this, I vote for it to stay!

    Who's the inconsiderate, feeble-minded @$$teroid in the 76' Lazzara?

I had a look at the video, and the other video from the event, and was thinking of moving this post to Yachtforums Yacht Club. Besides this, it was fun!

    Hi,

I agree it should stay as it isn't really a blatant commercial plug and it is something a lot of people can connect with.

    Not unusal

That boat, or one like it, tends to anchor right in front of us, (too close for safety 100% of the times) then run their generator all night so we get the fumes and the noice in the open hatches while we try to sleep in the V-berth.

Loud music and noisy jet-skis also comes with the package.

Numerous times I have taken my dinghy over to ask the arse-holse to shut off the generator, the music and to park the jet-skis, or move somewhere else.

If a proffesional captain is running the boat, we solve the problem, if an owner/couple is running it, they have no clue what I am talking about and I end up pulling the anchor and moving somewhere else.

Same with high-end sport fishing boats: Anchor too close and run the **** generator all night.

Not sure what planet these guys are coming from, but common sense and courtesy is not there.

An old remedy is to swim out in the dark and cut the anchor line (amateurs don't use chain) or stuff a potato in the generator exhaust.

Using the horn or yelling on the radio does not work as most of those guys don't leave the radio on and don't have a clue that somebody may be signaling.

Unfortunately you only need a line of credit to buy a big boat, not a brain.

I believe the old addage... "More Dollars Then Sense" was originally directed at new boat owners.

Norseman... I ve also has sailboats anchor right in front of me running wind generator all night, and these things can be louder than a diesel genset

About the original post, not considerate but seems to me that the guy was dragging, not anchoring...

Lots of shallow water around the area, i wonder if henhad to anchor there because of shoals further out... Don't recall where that park is but it would be interesting to look at the depths on a chart

So if i get this right... Because you decided to camp out for 3 days, you want that slice of water to be reserved for your own viewing pleasure?

Sounds like your offense to these other boaters actions allows you to damage their boat, endanger their lives and their vessel and yell at them. I'd have to say many people would not pick them to be the a**holes if they had to pick between you and them.

Were you the only people on shore watching? I see little offense here; what was the boater supposed to do? It's not clear by the video; it makes it seem as if the whole shore was filled and anywhere he moved he would have blocked people.

    I hate that too....:(

( I don't have a windmill on my boat and if I did, would anchor away from other boats just to be a good neighbor)

    Who started it?
If you insist on being an arse-hole and to screw your neigbhor, then you may expect consequences.
I have not damaged any boats (yet) but I have sure yelled at idiots.
Sorry if my comments above hit a nerve: Are you one of the guys that anchor on top of somebody else, then run a generator all night...?
If so, hope I won't be in the same anchorage as you.//:rolleyes:

Come on guys, let's all be respectful of each other and agree to disagree. No need to get shafts out of alignment. Heck, we're probably all guilty of blocking someone's view at some point. I do it more often since I gained weight.

In the Stockholm Archipelago we have recently got a few No Noise and No Wake zones. In other places the worst I know are the kids running their small RIB:s in circles for hours...

    You are right boss.
Sorry if I offended a few idiots and got on my high horse about inconsiderate power boaters.

(Sailboaters of course are no exception, but this thread was about morons on a fairly typical "I don't give a **** about anybody but myself" boat)

    Inconsiderate Boater

Whoo-wee! I certainly don't advocate any harm to a vessel or its passengers or crew! I think some of the extreme suggestions are mental exercises in common frustration rather than a desire to do actual harm. Boaters can be inconsiderate regardless of their boat's method of power (sail, motor, paddle). Just to clarify, I was viewing the shuttle launch from a place called "Space View Park", built and maintained by the city of Titusville, FL. Space View Park is only about 150 feet wide along the Indian River. Over 15,000 people were crammed into that park to view the launch, many enduring 3 days of "camping out" (as mentioned above) to save a good spot. The Indian River affords at least a 3 mile long section of good launch pad viewing by boat, almost all not obstructing shoreline viewing. So, the "inconsiderate boater", two minutes before launch, chose a 50-foot section that blocked the view of tens of thousands when he had over 15,000 feet of river to chose from. Other considerate boaters chose anchorages that allowed us to admire their boats and also watch the launch.

I just would like to know the name of the song writer and get the ***hole song on iTunes, I know of FAR TOO many occasions I could use this at FULL volume on the boat (bring on the jet ski’s ***holes), in the car,
    And:
Most of all for those special moments after a wonderful day at the business when I and my wife can sit back with a relaxing “beverage” an' just turn it up, DEDICATE it to every ***hole I know, have known and will meet, and smile:D

    Inconsiderate Boater

Nope, not a shuttle groupie, just an American fulfilling a "bucket list" dream and wanting to witness the last of an era and a piece of history. That was my one and only shuttle launch. Like you, I enjoy my spare time on the water on my boat. This day, I had to settle for watching from the shore. People find humor in many things.
