    In response to the 60 Minutes segment that aired Sunday about Social Media, it's important to recognize that not all social media platforms are designed to stoke the flames of division to increase engagement. Internet forums are the original social media and continue to thrive by bringing people together with a common interest. Pop social media platforms were originally propagated by youngsters seeking acceptance and popularity. This gave rise to Influencers.   2. 1) At YF, we don't use social media to drive traffic. We tried it and got the same mindless remarks that plague most social media sites.

    2) Our traffic comes from people using descriptive, yachting related keywords in search engines. This brings us readers with a serious interest in our topic and more relevant discussions.

    3) We've found the people that can afford big boats generally don't use social media for privacy reasons. These are often individuals who don't want their employees, shareholders or competitors knowing anything about their recreational pursuits.

    Since 2003, we've focused on building an information resource that is trusted by millions.
