Had a vibration on my stbd shaft...had shaft removed...the key way in the shaft coupler was not squared anymore and was rounding out...what would cause this?

I'd say most likely hitting something but it could be a lot of things from bad cutlass bearing to the shaft not being true.

Thanks...having the shaft checked for straightness, new cutlass bearing, and putting a new coupler on..hopefully that will remove the issue

More than likely the key wasn't fit properly the last time it was installed. Either it was too loose or the coupling was loose on the shaft.

Suggest you get a NDT check on the shaft end to ensure there are no cracks or indications.
