  1. We see so many pretty pictures of yachts, I see lots of yachts getting worked on. Let's see if I can get this picture to the forum....

So I'm guessing it's not really supposed to look like that?

Ouch!! Any news as to how it happened and what he hit? (Besides "rock"...)

It is the new 116 Azimut that went on the jetty at Fort Lauderdale last year on her maiden voyage.

    Yachtbrokerguy,
In your first pic of the prop, why is there, what looks to be a grounding cable, attached to the prop (top blade)? Were they welding when you took the pic or do they ground yachts when they are hard up?
    Thanks
    Capt Tom
  6. Most of them get grounded for safety.

Acajou was a victim of a storm if I remember correctly... quite a few boats were damaged, but she really got the raw end of the deal.

Edit: Just found the link to techmati's pics in another thread: http://www.techmati.com/yachts/acajou/index2.htm

So what are they going to do with that Azimut? Still waiting for the insurance company to figure it out? Was it "totaled"? Any plans to refloat it? Just wondering what happens to a yacht with that amount of running gear and hull problems. Do you know how much water it took on and if the engines were underwater?
    Thanks

Well its no doubt that she took on water because i can see some space in the composite....i still cannot figure out what she hit though?
  15. She took on lots of water, one of the pictures shows how the strut was driven through the bottom from wave action, and there were a bunch of other holes along the starboard side.
I heard a report of steering failure, I have no idea of exactly what happened. I saw pictures of the yacht resting on the stone jetty along her starboard side, could not sink too far as she was on the rocks and bottom.
Work is being done on the yacht now, the bottom near the bow thruster was reglassed this weeek and there is a constant work crew on board.

I am doing a yard period in Directors were I had met some electracians who had told me they were going to start doing electrical work to the vessel. Who ever owns it is going to try and restore it and sell it. Surprisinly the work that they are going to do was not going to be cheap stuff. They said a new Atlas is going there amongst many other things like a whole new switch pannel. Go figure.
  17. Here is another shipyard picture, but this one is not of a disaster but a typical day of maintenance and improvements.
