Hello and thank you in advance for any information that you may be able to give to me in regards to finding out whether or not my childhood boat, as seen below is still afloat. We had purchased our Trumpy, named the "Vizcaya" in 1981-1982 in Miami, Florida. The prior owner had an accident, falling off of the dock, and passed away. The man had owned her for 20 years, purchasing her in the Caymen Islands. We Due to the accident, the boat price was seriously reduced.
"Vizcaya" was built by Mathis Yacht Building - Camden, NJ in 1920/1921 under contract number 115 for H. N. Baruch, originally named "Nahmeoka". She was last listed in Lloyds (1976) as owned by Bruce W. Whitcombe, registered in and home port of Nassau, Bahamas. I see one later owner, Will Claypool who would have purchased her sometime after 1979. I see no evidence that she survives. I did find someone else who's looking for her from when she was named "Domino II" I cannot post a link here, but if you Google "Trumpy/Mathis Domino" you will see that blog post. I hope this helps. BTW, Some of the information stated in that other blog posting is, IMHO incorrect.
We owned Domino II from the mid-50s until her superstructure was destroyed by hurricane Donna in 1960. She was docked at her home base in Marathon Shores FL. The story behind our acquisition of Domino II was that her previous owner had been electrocuted while working with a power tool in the engine room. At that time she had a Stirling gasoline engine with exposed pushrods. We repowered her with a war surplus 6-71 and fit he out as a mothership for light tackle fishing in the Keys, Florida Bay and the Cape Sable area.
